Athanasius (293-373) the great Church Father was a proponent of orthodoxy opposing the popular Arian heresy of his day. In 325 at the council of Nicea the Church condemned Arianism spelling a victory for Athanasius and the true Church with it's true orthodoxy. However, leading up to that time it looked as though Arianism would win the day. In fact, Trinitarianism was even outlawed for a brief time and Athanasius was exiled as a heretic. During this whole time the pressure was on Athanasius to recant and join the Arians since he was standing alone against them. They pressured him to give in claiming "The world is against you." To this he gave one of the greatest quotes of all time. "It's not the world against me, it's Athansius against the world!"
