: becoming a Christian to get an ex back?
: drc82 Thu May 13, 2010 - 00:13:05
Is there anything wrong with a guy becoming a Christian and hoping that will convince his ex-gf to give him another chance?  Is that fair to the girl, or kind of manipultive towards her?

Suppose she had broken up with him a few months prior because he was not a Christian, and he had been trying to convince her to get back together before finally becoming a Christian.

That doesn't seem like a good reason to become a Christian to me. In fact, if that was the only motive behind your action, then it would really just be empty and hollow, without conviction. You should be serious about becoming a Christian, it's not a joke to God.

What happens when she comes back to you? Would you continue in your walk with God, or would you be happy with the result, and turn your back on Him? I guess that's the biggest question you need to be asking yourself.

Jus t because someone says they are a Christian means almost nothing. They will be known by their fruit.

iTS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN.  sOME ONE CAN BECOME WHAT HE IS PRETENDING TO BE.
tHERE IS NO MIRACLE THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT CANNOT PERFORM.

If he really has become a Christian, then it will last whether she has him back or not. If he has just gone through the motions to get her back then when she says no, he will leave it all behind.
If I were her, I would observe and bide my time to see if his conversion is real or not (that is if she wants him back now anyway)

Jesus preached, "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand," not "Repent, for your girlfriend is at hand."  The motivation to get saved is so we can spend eternity with Jesus, not to get an ex back.

Well he is obviously only doing it to get her back.  Pretty low-life.....if you ask me.  Hey....look honey, I pray and go to church....NOW will you take me back?  Pure comedy.

Pure comedy until it works...either a miracle or a tragedy afterwards.

I asked because this happened to a girl in my church group.  She did get back together with the guy.  This wasnt something that happened recently (nearly 3 years ago now), but seeing as most everyone in that group (and her friends) are moving forward in their lives (many have gotten into relationships and married in that timeframe) it is only getting more troubling as time passes.  Seems like more of a tragic story than a miraculous one.

Not that anyone else in that group cares besides me.  So maybe Im the crazy one.

I did let out recently that I thought it was not quite right for a guy to use converting to get his ex back.  It did not go over well at all.   We'll just say even though he doesnt go to this church or group (other than some social stuff), everyone is on his side.  I think they are all hoping if they date long enough he will eventually come around.  No one has said that out right or anything, just the impression Ive got.

By on his side...that may deserve more explanation.  Despite the fact that I dont know this guy, prior to what I said, he had sent an email with threatening language towards me to everyone (even the church pastor...whom also does not even know who he is).  No one said a word about it...when I (weeks later) let out my thoughts about his conversion.  There were a few very angry emails directed at me.

LOL,
I was in that situation 2 years ago. It's funny now but I was quite upset when he came at me like that. He was not a Christian and although we had went there (sex) while being un-married, I was so convicted and told him I had to stop this and I know the relationship would be different. So, he told me that he would 'become a Christian' so we could have a wedding. I fell out laughing. I was upset but I did laugh. And HE had the nerve to be offended because I laughed. Needless to say, we were done a week or two later and I am currently single (smile).
