: A Website is not a business
: billmcc Sun Nov 14, 2010 - 02:52:36
There are millions of websites making nothing.

So if a product is not a business - and a website is not a business - what IS a business?

The answer : Customers

I'd say a business is the production, distribution and management of a product (or service) that people (or other businesses) see as worth spending their money to obtain due to need or want.

How does that sound?

I like your reply the first half, "... a business is the production, distribution and management of a product (or service)" is not the business, it is only what effort or value you put in. The second part is what makes the business "people (or other businesses) see as worth spending their money to obtain due to need or want." If you don't have people then you do not have an business.

There are a lot of websides which promote or distribute some products or services, however, many sites don't do this, though, earn money as well. Isn't it a business?

And if you do not have a product or service you do not have a business. If you do not have a means to distribute a product or service you do not have a business. Your attempt to split hairs where none is needed is just silly.

What I have been learning about business is that you need people or other business in order to profit. If you have people or business that have a need, and you can fill that need, you can profit. Often we find a product then we try to find people when we should find people then find the solution or product they want.

A friend and I recently launched a Christian based website (still a working progress).  Does someone have an idea on what the best way to promote the site?

Couple of thoughts

A website is just another business tool - the content and the purpose can be the business.

Promotion all depends on the product.  There are lot's of good avenues in social media and I recommend the important of a good quality blog with frequent posts to engage an audience.

I have written a number of articles on my blog http://www.digitalark.co.uk/blog1/ (http://www.digitalark.co.uk/blog1/)

I run a Web design, SEO, Link Building company here in the Philippines.

I have been in this business since 2008, still into it and I see myself into this at least a couple of decades more.

The internet can generate a huge sales to your business, it's true. Getting a good website is one thing, but getting your website visible to your potential clients is another thing.

Getting on top results of Google search is the best way to get a high traffic. How to do it? That's where you're going to need our services.
