: Problems on Site
: Didymus Mon Dec 13, 2010 - 17:03:47
Did you guys make amy changes recently?  For the last week or so, I have been having problems getting on this site.  Sometimes I get a 404 Error message indicating a problem at the server of the site.

When I do finally do get on the site,  transference from one page to another takes forever (proverbially speaking).

It is somewhat irritating.

There are problems with the server we're presently using, and corrections are being sought even to the extent of a different source is my understanding. Hang in there brother; we're all suffering through it as our Admin is knocking himself out attempting to keep up with the downtime and find the cure.

May God bless him and his efforts in Jesus' name.  ::smile::

I'm having the same problems, so it isn't just me.

Also, when I post from the edit page I'm always redirected to a 404 error.

Give Lee our condolences ;o)

Well, I'm in today.  So far so good.

Now to post this - see if it works.

Modified to say:

IT WORKED!

Well, it almost worked.

Are you saying you're still having those problems today? And what do you mean that it almost worked Didymus? Thanks, we're working on it.

Sorry, I thought it was selfexplanitory.

When I went to modify the message to say:

 IT WORKED!

The size increase didn't work.

Modified: Okay, it didn't work here either.

Didymus, you had added a "+" to your size which is wrong.

All you had to do was drop the "+" such as the following'

Sorry,

On other sites you have to put the plus sign in.

So all you ahve to do is just adjust the number.

IT WORKED!

What if you make it smaller?  Do you put the minus sign in like this?

You can make it smaller but just change the number before posting and leave the "- and + signs out of it. I believe the maximum size is "25".

I'll figure it out some day.

I have a viewing to go to in NJ tomorrow, so, goodnight.

There has been a big improvement in the time to check stats on and individual profile overnight. It was taking between one and two minutes to bring up before, and now is near immediate.

I did notice one problem and that is the number of posts on some threads; there can be a reply and the count does not show it.

Some posts counts of individual members show zero, and yet they have posted; other times they have posted twice and it shows as one.

An example is the name of "vansonliem" having two posts and only showing as one.

This may not seem like a big problem, but it could be tied to other problems.

One last problem I can think of is that when certain threads give notice on email of a reply, using the link provided on the notice does not take us to the thread, but only the forum at times. And then if we want to discontinue notification on some threads it takes modifying our last post to eliminate the check in our "Notify me of replies".

Thanks Admin.

Dear Brother Admin, I do not know if this is relevant, but while having a present home page on screen it will show "Recent Christian Message Board Posts." I had noticed that when I posted a new thread that it wasn't reflected on that screen for the past three hours. It was only when I went off line to the forum and came back in that it up dated.

That same anomaly occurs with the list of "Active users." Go offsite and return to maybe twice as many online as before.

Thanks.

Larry2, I think I know what you're saying but I'm not completely sure. I'll post this and see if it shows up under the Recent Christian Message Board Posts list.

--Okay, I did that and it posted immediately to the Recent Board Posts list.

So I'm not seeing the issue duplicated. I'll look further into this.

I just posted a new thread and it also posted by the time I could check it. There are things changing. Thanks.

Dear Admin, an error occurs at times when responding to an email such as the following example.

The email I received is below, but selecting "View the reply" takes me to another thread titled "THE LORD  « on: August 14, 2008, 04:16:15 AM »

An interesting thing happens when I click on the email link from on this message instead of my email on my computer and that is that it seems to bypass something and go straight to the correct thread.

Admin,

Did you recently transfer the site to a newer more update server?  If you did, that could be the root of my problems.  You see, I have an old computer that does not do to well with newer servers.

This use to be one of the best sites, now it's one of the slowest.

But, since others are having problems, I can't be sure it's my computer.

Didymus,

We did switch to a new server. We had to because of the traffic. But now it should be flying. It's flying for me and the others I've talked to. You can buy a brand new computer for about $300 that is way better than the $1200 ones of 10 years ago.

It shouldn't matter what computer you have in terms of the speed of a server. The server works fast regardless of what computer you have because it's a separate machine.

I hope things speed up for you. You might want to download Malware Bytes and run a quick scan. That's the best way to speed up your computer that I know of (and it's free).

Take care,
Admin
