I believe that when you use your own photo the forum software automatically resizes it to 65x65px. Some of the avatars available in the gallery are larger than that. Can you give us an example of someone with a larger avatar?

Yes

Click Profile from the row of options near the top of this page.

Then from the new options that show up above your profile page put the pointer over Modify Profile and a drop down list will appear, click Forum Profile from that list and you should be able to figure it out from there.  You can use an avatar from the gallery or link your own like I did, my dog Stix.

Welcome to Grace Centered, ::tippinghat::

Yep, that user is using an avatar from the forum selection, the system does NOT automatically resize them.... depending on how the main admin user has permissions set up, you may be able to take your avatar and resize it yourself using an editor you like, then save it when you get what you want, and re-select it on the board BY URL if the system will allow you to do so.... not sure if it will work like that cause I haven't tested it myself...
