I have been here for sevel years and I cant say I have noticed that much difference. People come and people go, and they all bring their own individual ideas and beliefs and perspectives.
There are a lot of mature Christians here right now actually.

I've been here for three years now and it's pretty much the same as the day I found this site. I've seen people grow in their faith which is Christ Jesus and I have seen people come against our faith that is Christ Jesus so no, nothing has changed. I see many insightful knowledgeable Christians that have even helped me learn a few new things, which shows you can teach an old dog new tricks from time to time.

 ::pondering::

Yeah, not so much in my opinion only I suspect..............T'was a time there I was a Moderator, and I spent hours on end chasing trolls around the various Forums trying to keep their unChristian comments from harming the Forums.........haven't seen much of that lately...........now, don't mean the occasional one don't slip in now and again, but nothing like it used to be.

As for members/Moderators who have come and gone............there are some I miss a lot....but there are many that I don't particurarly miss............the absence of KarlaTeal and all the Created SN's used by that bunch are certainly a welcomed loss to Grace Centered.

All responsible for keeping Grace Centered up and running deserve our prayers and thanks..........and the bottom line is:  No one is forcing anyone to be here..............it's a choice..........even I have taken a break once or twice just to clear my head of some of the arguments going on from time to time............but when I returned, I found the caring, loving, Godly folks that first brought me here were still "fighting the good fight," and I was happy to give them a shout out and thank them for all they do.

Life has peaks and valleys........ups and downs.........like Dotti Rambo said in her song........The God on the mountain.......is still God in the valley...........

I suppose folks have their particular opinions of the quality of Christian thoughts/beliefs/comments expressed here..............so everyone is entitled to their opinion.  As for me, I see a great improvement in not only the commentary, but the quality of the Forums.  Grace Centered is easily one of the best Christian Forums on the internet today.

The old adage............beauty is in the eye of the beholder.........also fits with one being insightful or displaying a mature knowledge of Christianity............it too is in the eye of the beholder is it not?

Go back 10 years.............6 years..........3 years..............yesterday..............for sure you will find one or more of the following:

Thread arguing Water Baptism vs. Holy Spirit Baptism
Thread arguing Grace vs. Law
Thread arguing Once Saved, Always Saved
Thread arguing Predestination
Threads espousing hatred for Catholics
Threads espousing hatred for Protestants
Threads with really "sicko" subject matter in the Forums where this stuff is posted
Thread arguing homosexuality
Threads espousing hatred of all things liberal

.............and on and on.........after awhile, the "insightful" and "mature" arguments concerning these are just so much dust in the wind in my opinion.  To see others on threads that attempt to "edify" rather than "tear down" is quit a welcomed change as far as I'm concerned.  And I see many more of these now than I did when I first joined.

I don't know about going downhill, I haven't been here long, but I looked over a few other sites before joining, and this was one of the finest I found.  Many Godly people here ::saint::, some I agree with ::nodding::, some I don't ::frown::, and still others I have no idea  ::headscratch::

There are a lot of believers out there who are thinking-type people who would share a lot of carefully-thought-out ideas. They weren't just "mainstream" believers who would just repeat modern-day Christianity but demonstrate that they had their own individual thoughts about many things of scripture that they studied and meditated upon. I liked seeing those kinds of thoughts.

There's still a lot of that here, but not quite as much as there used to be.

While I'm new to this forum, I've been active on other forums for a very long time. The very thing that makes us who we are in our gift of freewill is evident everywhere. On my computer forums there is a never ending war between intel and AMD, and mac vs Windows, in my racing forums it's Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge, so upon joining here I wasn't surprised in the least to see the differences between peoples hearts, it's human nature and moreover it's the evidence of God's gift of freewill to us.

That said, submission and obedience are key in keeping freewill aligned with the word of God, something that is much more apparent here than on other types of forums where flaming others for disagreeing is the norm, not the exception.

It's our choice to engage in topics we disagree with, and most of us know that despite stating OUR opinion, the other party is very unlikely to bow down and rethink their own logic.

So far I've enjoyed being here very much, and intend on hanging in. Good work GC, admin, moderators, and site staff....

Blessings to all

Wow are people posting things that they can't back up with scripture somewhere, or do you just not believe what you read in the BIBLE?

YOU know who else took the Bible literally? Jesus!!!

So it is "truth" that you are trying to bring to light?  Interesting.  I thought perhaps it was simply what you think is truth.

Neither of my statements were directed at you specifically or solely; rather they were directed generally at what gets posted here.

Catholics can be frustrating to me, but IMHO the church is decent.  I believe they have a chance at finding salvation.

I brows 3 Christian sites,

one is liberal, boy can I get beat up there, hard to believe they read same the bible I do....

the 2nd is much like this one, but a little more kind in there responses.

At this forum I have noticed some very insightful member's have left, I may not of agreed with all of them, but it sad to see people leave because they get beat down so badly.

at Christian sites we can disagree, but it should be in a loving, teaching manner, so many replies are sarcastic, degrading, and some just down right mean....

I stay here because I know most here truly love God, and I like that this forum is not so up-tight about how people express themselves, and ban everyone like some other forums.

thanks to all that hold this forum together!!

Maybe you don't get this, Lively, but the forum is supposed to be a place where people with different beliefs can come and dialogue about them.

It's not meant to be a safehouse where only those who are perfect gather, and defend the fort against the wicked heretics and invaders.

Granted I have a vested interest in commenting here, but I feel compelled to make a few statements about recent developments here... Although the statistics page seldom gets the attention it deserves, in my biased opinion as a fellow SMF powered website owner, it is a valuable asset to reference and use as sort of a barometer of many different aspects of our progress forward or back... there is a lot of history in this particular site's existence and I can say without hesitation that you will see even greater things to come once we get all the remaining issues resulting from the upgrade of the software I did back in July 2012 resolved...

You can navigate to that page by clicking the link circled in red on the Main page of the forums, or by clicking anywhere on this image... the other link circled in blue is also a handy little screen if you might be interested in seeing what topics are of interest to the other members who happen to be online at the same time you are...

I have been here since 04.  The biggest change is that it has grown from almost exclusively CoC folk to many different Christian denominations.  Jarrod is correct.  This is not a safe house for any one group or theology it is an exchange of ideas.  Because of that fact we gather some folks who have strange ideas and some who insist that they have all the correct answers.  I have been on forums that contend for their view of the truth and throw everyone off that does not agree.  Those are not discussion boards and not a pleasant place to be.  This board may not be perfect but it is way ahead of any other I have found.

Nothing ever stays the same in life, and that can be a blessing sometimes.
That's the truth, except when they open a forum for every Tom, Dick and Harry that comes down the pike, we see an increase in subversiveness. We've had the addition of a Preterist forum---what's next? Universalism?
We already have one of those.  ::smile::

I have been here since 04.  The biggest change is that it has grown from almost exclusively CoC folk to many different Christian denominations.

I miss the CoC, or at least Rest Movement, discussions. There are things I can't bring up at church without getting a visit from my elders. I live in a part of the country where good CoCers still think you can go to hell for dancing, swimming with girls, missing Sun PM services, saying someone from a denom might make it into heaven, voting democrat, allowing a women to teach 12 year old "men", drinking a beer or going to an ecumenical service. I enjoy hearing from the liberal brethern.

It's not meant to be a safehouse where only those who are perfect gather, and defend the fort against the wicked heretics and invaders.

100% agree.   Just because a person disagrees with a certain viewpoint, it does not make them 'less mature' as a Christian.  It's just a different journey and a different life and/or cultural experience.  At the end of the day, we all have to stand before God for the things we said and did - and I personally do not see these boards as a place to advance my own agenda or force other people to see life the way I do.   I appreciate the diversity of opinion - some of the extreme opposite viewpoints force me to think more deeply about what I believe/think.

It's a discussion place, if done respectfully, it is a place where we can all learn from each other.   Or so I think!   ::whistle::

Rule No. 1 - No "Flaming"

1.1 You may discuss another individual's beliefs or religious organization but you will not harass, insult, belittle, threaten, defame or flame the individual (member or nonmember) as this is considered personal attacks in posts, PMs and any other communication within this site.
Rule No. 2 - No "Trolling"

2.1 You will not do anything on Grace-Centered Christian Forums that disrupts the peace and harmony of this forum. This includes, but not is limited to:
a. Deliberately reposting a post, thread, image, or anything else that has been removed by a moderator for a breach of a forum rule.

Rule 4: d. that are blasphemous or satanic (including posts that take the Lord's name in vain).
e. puts down or belittles Christianity as a whole, a Christian group or denomination or God Himself, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible or any other Christian objects of significance (as this is a Christian website).

Rule No. 5 - No Promotion of Other Religions

5.1 You will not post, attach, use or send any posts, PMs, links, images or files that promote a religion, belief, faith or doctrine other than "Christianity" as defined in Rule 6.
Rule No. 6 - This is a "Christian Forum"

6.1 This is a best described as a "Christian-only" message forum. However, administration reserves the right to allow members of other religions if deemed productive. To have a "Christians only" forum, we need to define who can post. Therefore, we need a set of criteria that clearly defines who a Christian is for the purposes of posting. This is not for any other reason. We are not speculating as to a person's salvation, faith or beliefs. This rule is not intended to label a member as "non-Christian".

6.2 We do not expect members to accept or affirm this as a Creed as Grace-Centered recognizes no Creed but the Bible. We do, however, expect members to agree to the content below only because it is based on the Bible.
(did not post the entirety of Rule 6, 'cause folks can read it for themselves........)

Don't know how this measures up to the idea that you expressed Brother...........in my opinion they do not.......but that is just me maybe.

Yes, I read those rules too.   But even in churches, people have differeing opinions on different subjects.
Surely if you posted a 'controversial' subject that is in the media and we all posted the exact same viewpoint on it, it would get extremely boring around here!

'Grace-centered' to me, simply means that we discuss with GRACE toward one another.  I can have completely opposite views to you on a subject, but I still have to accept you as my brother or sister in Christ and act accordingly.  That to me, is showing grace toward one another - agreeing to disagree sometimes.

This is not what I am referring to Gracey, I am speaking of folks from other religions.....beliefs.......who are not/nor profess to be Christians........posting here..........and as I read the Rules, they are quite specific about this being a CHRISTIAN FORUM.........

Now, all this may have changed, what with all the new changes being put in place, and maybe now the powers that be are aiming to take the Forums "mainstream," I dunno......but if it is going to be opened up to one and all.........then they can pretty much chuck the Rules in the dumpster for there won't be any Christian civility with many who come in from "other beliefs."

You may not have noticed but there are a whole lot of folks out there who hate Christians and all they stand for.......who do not believe in Jesus Christ, or that there is even a God........and if they start to flood Grace Centered.............well, it surely won't be Grace Centered anymore in my opinion......

I really don't understand where you are comming from.  If one come on the site and proclaims to be an atheist then they are submitted for ban.  If they claim to be a Christian we can discuss and have very different views but the rules you posted prohibit questioning anothers salvation.  So what exactly are you refering to?  I have some very strong personal views that are much different than many others here but it is not my place to be the judge of their salvation or how they understand or misunderstand scripture.

I have noticed a lot of Catholics moving into the neighborhood. When I first started on GC I was interested because there were Restoration Movement types posting here but now we seem to be in the minority.

It was a better forum with more RM types on here.  I am not RM, but have some RM connections.

The flock of Catholics and TBN types have ruined this forum.  Most of the original moderators were RM affiliated at least, and this board didn't resemble Beliefnet in any fashion.

I have been here since the board basically started, not with this username, but with another well known one.  And this board was meant as a safehouse for Christians.  See 6.1.

Universalists were heavily moderated and/or banned.  JW's and Mormons weren't allowed.

I fundamentally disagreed with the addition of Universalism discussion forums and others, so did some of the moderators at the time.

But this is Admin's board and that was his decision.

Maturity is overated and elusive.  Awareness of and embracing one's immaturity, naivety, is the surest path to maturity, wisdom, and joy. ::headscratch::

Don't sweat the small stuff,  consider rebuke, and if deemed warranted; reconcile, repent, and make reparation, then move forward with nary a look over the shoulder.

Brother, I have made no reference to "believers who disagree" on certain theological points.  Of course that is expected on a Christian Forum.............the exchanging of beliefs, while sometimes passionate, is not a bad thing between fellow believers.

My concern is over Jarrod's comment quoted below:

Maybe you don't get this, Lively, but the forum is supposed to be a place where people with different beliefs can come and dialogue about them.

It's not meant to be a safehouse where only those who are perfect gather, and defend the fort against the wicked heretics and invaders.

Jarrod

End quote.....

Now, possibly he did not mean people who aren't Christian when he stated "people with different beliefs," but to me this is what the statement implied, and that is my concern.  The reason I understand his statement this way is because of the second statement which clearly states "defend the fort against the wicked heretics and invaders."  Couple this with "people with different beliefs," and you have the "root" of my concern.

Willie T, thanks for your concern, but discussing what we believe is good or problematic about Grace Centered should never be a cause for banning someone in my opinion, but, that's just me, and I certainly have no power to wield......so, grain of salt I suppose.

There have been none her more determined than I to defend Grace Centered against any and all attacks from "those of other beliefs" for the duration of my membership thus far............but, that too is my opinion.  I have read many of the comments posted by Admin, studied the various statements he has posted in the Magazine, and when serving as a moderator, was privy to some of his thoughts, ideas, and stated purposes for Grace Centered.............and based on that, I do not believe that what Jarrod implied in his comment is the stated goal of Admin.

Now, I could be wrong, I dunno.......but I have seen nothing from Admin that would lead me to believe he has altered his "mission goal" for Grace Centered.  Just read the comment at the top left of the Magazine Home Page.............do you need any further clarification?

God bless ya JohnB......

In the 1950s and '60s in the Church of Christ "wicked heretics and invaders" would have included Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics and even members of the Independent CC/CoC. A few still feel that way but most of us have lightened up.

I enjoy reading posts from Catholics so I can see where they are coming from so I can do a better job of disputing them but with their belief in following the traditions of men rather than just what is written in inspired scripture I barely consider them to be Christian. I lump them in with Mormons.

I've been a member here for 10+ years - man have things changed. Anyone else remember Nerdneh? Booty? Peck? Janine? How about BH or Bog? There were plenty of deep, spirited discussions in those days.

I was also a moderator for many years. But because I dealt swiftly, firmly, and directly with foolishness I was tagged by some as "mean" (the worst thing one can be these days), and I resigned as a mod rather than be a party to a plethora of fatuous nonsense on my watch.

In general I think most changes have been for the better - and I know from experience that being a mod is a hard, thankless task. With only a couple of exceptions, I respect and appreciate the current ones.

I'm not a mature Christian. I only started attending church services again a few months ago after a long absence. I was raised by a Roman Catholic mother and then by Christian foster parents, and I tend to follow what they said on this subject.

While they generally do not agree with JoHo's or Mormons as they use a different book, they reminded me that the Bible is God's law as interpreted by Man. Much like the four gospels tell similar stories in very different ways, we as humans will interpret everything in a different way. For example, while they feel the bible condemns same sex marriage, I believe that since Jesus himself never commented on the subject, who are we to say it's wrong (please don't get into a huge debate with me on this subject, it's just an example.)

However, it's the same with all of us. We may attend different denominations or have different opinions or intepretations of the Bible, but as long as we are all treating each other with compassion, humility, poise and understanding the way Jesus taught us to love each other, then that doesn't matter. I'm sure when he taught his message, his plan wasn't for us to fight about how to understand it, but for us to try to live it each day by loving each other regardless of what that person is doing, whether they worship the "right" God, or the "right" way and to simply enjoy each other's company and friendship and let God decide what was right and wrong.

Does that make sense?

All this to-do over my comments!  I was talking about Christians, not Muslims, or Buddhists.  There's a question of where the line is drawn to be considered a Christian, I suppose, but for the most part, what I've seen here in my 5+ years has been that more and more people have been included.

The forum was for the most part CoC/RM folks originally, but about the time I got here it expanded to include most the protestant denominations.  A couple years later, Catholics were embraced as members (except by a couple of people... knock it off, k?)  Various subforums were opened for different specific denoms.  There was the addition of the 'unorthodox theology' forum and its subs.

All these actions speak to welcoming people, not judging them and throwing out the ones who aren't 'up to snuff.'  Privately, the call has always been for less moderation and more freedom for members.  Moderators here are not meant to be 'the theology police' though there are times where that line is blurry.  You were once a mod, weren't you p_r?  I sort of expect you to understand this.  GCF is more of an agora than a fortress.  Randoms are welcome to wander in off the virtual street and discuss theology and hopefully learn something from people who show them kindness.

Of course, some see it as their duty to destroy these people as though they were invaders come to poison the well.  But that is part of the maturation process with online forums.  Everyone seems to go through a phase where they view themselves as the 'defender of the faith.'  It's a normal progression from novice to initiate to defender of the faith and, God willing, hopefully this too shall pass on into a benevolent leadership where one leads others towards truth with insightful questions and answers full of facts.  Building a man is infinitely better than destroying one - even a bad one.

As for real invasions, we've had them in the past (trolls, spammers, hackers, etc) and they've been dealt with.  For the most part, it is done so swiftly as to be barely noticeable.  A ton of credit should go to admin and also larry, who always seems to be already 'on it' whenever I notice something amiss.

I'll leave you with a quote - one of the best I've seen during my time here.  Bonus points if you can name the poster whose tagline this once was. ::smile::

"He drew a line that excluded me.  I drew one that included him."

Thanks for the explination Jarrod, but your orrigional comment was a wee bit misleading in my opinion, especially when included with your second comment.

Yes I know the orrigons of Grace centered.......and I know that Admin has expanded the vision to include as many different believers/churches as possible, and that is a good thing...........but to me, your comment did not seem to be stressing this point.......

As I said, you may well have ment "christians" when you spoke of those of other beliefs.....but, to me, this wasn't clear when coupled wite your second comment...........

Oh well, at least now my mind is more at east, because I was quite suprised to read your comment.......

I don't know if I ever read that particular tag or not..............but  I would have reversed the "I" and "He" in the statement to read........

I drew a line that excluded Him, but He drew a line that included me..............and this would reflect John 3:16 in my opinion..........but it may be the same thing too.

QUOTE:

All these actions speak to welcoming people, not judging them and throwing out the ones who aren't 'up to snuff.'  Privately, the call has always been for less moderation and more freedom for members.  Moderators here are not meant to be 'the theology police' though there are times where that line is blurry.  You were once a mod, weren't you p_r?  I sort of expect you to understand this.  GCF is more of an agora than a fortress.  Randoms are welcome to wander in off the virtual street and discuss theology and hopefully learn something from people who show them kindness.

END QUOTE.......

Yes, Admin has extended the Christian hand of fellowship to many........and reserves the right to even let those who deny Christ to remain if they are respectful enough.......we have a couple here now who have been here longer than I have, and one in particular that I enjoy conversing with.

Now as for the next part of your comment, my thoughts on this are not/nor should they be published in a Public Forum...........so........'nuff said about that.

Anyhoo, again, thanks for the clarifiation.......and as I said, this is much ado about little.......

God bless.

How can you blame Catholics when we spend 85% of our time in a subforum that others must visit to converse with us?

Its not like we're dominating the Theology Forum (main forum) or any of the other forums for that matter. I guess you prefer to lynch all the people you don't like.

I agree with you Light..........the Catholics are not to blame...........nor is any one group regardless of what they are called............in fact, I strongly disagree that Grace Centered has been "ruined."

Don't see any evidence of that whatsoever, rather I see the hard work Admin and those assisting him have done to make several improvements to the Forums.

If there has to be a problem identified so folks can have something to gripe about, then I suppose one could say that there might be a problem wits some individual posters.  One thing in particular that I have noticed is the drastic increase in the "I hate" comments being posted.............and they go every direction, from pretty much every denomination/group/church, whatever.  I have never understood what motivates a person who claims to b a Christian to spend the energy and time to post comments tearing down other Christians simply because they are from a different group..........don't understand it..........

Both Larry2 and JohnDB have made comments recently acknowledging the same thing...........so, the Catholic members here are not to blame, nor are the CoC, Southern Baptists, RM's, or my church, or any of the other denominations.............some individual posters?  Sure, we have seen their comments, and it has to be obvious that the comments are problematic...........but they certainly have not "ruined" Grace Centered in my opinion.

.......my thoughts........so...........

I guess when they don't take the Catholic bashing lying down and being quite it makes the Catholics a problem. rofl  Yes P like you I don't understand the constant condemnation of others who do not agree with you on every perceived doctrine.  I don't know why one can not present what they understand from scripture without calling names and excluding others who have different views.  God will be the judge and I have no desire to try to do His job.  Most of my mod time is spent trying to stop the name calling and judging others as non Christians.  I have been on several Christian sites and this one is still far better than any I have seen.

The Influx of Catholics and TBN types has ruined the board from what it once was, in my opinion.  My frame of reference is not 2009 or 2010.  My reference is 2001.  And my reference is prior to subforums.

Where did the lynching statement come from Hammer? You do realize Texas Conservative is not from Texas, where everyone is a member of the Ku Klux Klan? NOT.

Texas, may I politely, and in love, suggest you stuff a sock in it?

I have little use for the RCC, but the RCC is NOT the individual Catholics who post here.  They follow what they see as right and proper.  Only two or three could be termed objectionable in some of their comments.  So what?  People come, and people go.  You or I are "right" in everything?  I think not.

Give it a rest.

Yes, I can see some reaction when someone comes on here claiming their's is the only way, and the rest of us are hell-bound reprobates, but that kind of nonsense is not limited to a few loudmouth people who happen to be Catholics.  And it certainly is not all Catholics here.

To me it's just weird............I mean this "bashing" of Grace Centered.........much like the liberal Hollywood crowd that hates America so durn much............yet, oddly, they remain here........

::pondering::

If people actually believe that Grace Centered is so durn bad.........been "ruined," uh.......well...........why do they remain?

::pondering::

In another time I made the mistake of joining a couple of other "christian" forums/sites, but it only took a short while to see that I wanted no part of them........did'na "bash" them, rather I left and haven't been back..........same with TownHall.com.......and a couple of other political sites........they were not my cup of tea, but rather than spend my time on their forums bashing them, I chose to not go there.......because I understood that there were many, many people who enjoyed those sites, and it ain't always about "me."

I'm not telling anyone to leave.......that's not the point, the point is:  If things actually were so bad here on Grace Centered that I believed the site had been ruined.......why would I stay?

Simple truth is, Admin and others have created the best Christian Web Site going......perfect?  No, but far and above the others in my opinion.......

Sometimes we just gotta step back, take a breath, and consider the alternatives............and then be just a wee bit appreciative of what we have...........but, that's just me...........so.............

I don't care what your frame of reference entails and I'll put my lynching comments where I darn well please. The comment about the site being ruined doesn't deal with any year or time except the present.

You can not blame that on Catholics. I have read every single thread in the Catholic forum including the ones that were made before I arrived here. In that forum any confrontation is due primarily to those nonCatholics visting it and being rude. Today the exact same can be said. Apart from a few posters who obviously have nothing else to do with their time except repeat Unam Sanctum and Matthew 16, confrontation is caused by the rudeness of others. For the most part we stay in our area and hold our square. When we do venture out the majority of us keep exclusively Catholic doctrine out of the equation.

It was the same when broach was here, when dessertknight was here, and the hosts of others who have come and gone due to crudeness.

Where did the lynching statement come from Hammer? You do realize Texas Conservative is not from Texas, where everyone is a member of the Ku Klux Klan? NOT.

It came from his discriminating attitude, thats where. It has nothing to with his name as I have followed his posts in the political forum and am aware that he's not from Texas.

Your defense of Texas or the south is unnecessary and irrelevant to my point. His senseless remark is a reflection of a prejudice attitude. When things in an area start to get uncomfortable or bad some loud mouth uneducated idiot blames it on the group of people most different from him and the majority. Sooner or later hate crimes start. No I'm not saying that TC was inciting such but only that his attitude is the same starting point for the acts of violence commited based on discrimination.

If someone is antisemitic you would probably make a reference to the Nazis. If someone is a liberal, communism. TC's retarded statement warranted a reference to lynching which only prejudice dumbfounded people like himself participate in.

Hecks wrong him, trying to blame Catholics who were and still are the minority in this community. "Everything was good before the Jews showed up!" "Eureka! Concentration cramps".

That was a stupid comment rooted in his dislike for Catholics.

If a person wants to be Catholic that is their choice and that choice is up to that person and God ONLY .
