Hi all, lots of talk on here not so long ago about the so-called "Prophecy" of St. Malachy. The prophecy, if you haven't heard about it, is one attributed to St. Malachy, a Catholic bishop who lived in the 12th century. The so-called "prophecy" is a list of mottos that were supposed to pertain to popes in succession. The prophecy itself was never heard of or known publicly until 1590, hundreds of years after St. Malachy died. The reason that the prophecy is so interesting today is because, if numbering were to go, the next pope would be the last pope on the list, and according to the prophecy, then "the end" comes.
The reason that I say the prophecy is false is simple. If one looks at the mottos of the popes that process up to the time it was "discovered" (1590) the connections between the mottos and the popes they were associated with is accurate, perhaps up to 90% accurate. After that date, the connections become dubious at best and for many popes, not even the most avid conspiracy theory advocate can connect the motto to some popes.
Any reasonable person would pretty much rule out that the prophecy has any weight at all.
There is a good podcast to listen to; Jimmy Akin covered it well the first half of the Al Kresta show that he appeared on.

Also if you want to see for yourself how the correlation drops off after 1590, Wikipedia has a list of all the mottos.

I see many prophecies being debunked, often by the unbelieving (not including person above).
Often its simply misintepretation. E.g the last one says these words
"The end"
This could simply mean the end of the revelations, not the end of the world, since it's a rather crude thing to prophesy, considering the book of revelation contains a glorious future, world without end.
The many tribulations, do not point to the 'great tribulation', which is a key word that Christ used to describe the end days.
The great judge could in fact be a mysterious person who will bring back people to the faith. This mysterious person I believe is connected to the fatima prophecy. But since the pope has not released the interpretation, then I could be releasing forbidden information, so the mystery will be stuck with me forever, ::frown::
I think this proves the prophecy false:

The rabid anti-catholics may be forced to drop the Malachy prohecy but I wonder how long it will take them to raise the "Jesuit Oath" and other anti-Jesuit nonesense. ::smile::

I haven't seen any rabid anti-catholics pushing the prophecy....all the proponents I read were, in fact catholic.

I wasn't referring to this thread, just in general.

Maybe you ignore everything that Trumpeter posts like I do. Most the Petrus Romanus stuff comes from him.

I certainly never gave the Malachy prophecy any serious consideration; it was an obvious red-herring. I also remember the people who twisted Revelation 17:9-11 to predict that Benedict was going to be the last pope; I didn't fall for that either...
Some people just have itching ears, others are serious prophecy students.
