: Lost faith
: jmldn2 Mon Oct 14, 2013 - 11:25:17
I have a strong faith in God and my salvation through Jesus Christ, however, I have lost faith in the physical church.  It's been a while since I went to Sunday School nor church services.  I do read and study my bible and have my "quiet time" and devotions daily.  I just feel like my church and SS class are lacking in something I need.  Or maybe it's me.

What say you?

Thanks ::smile::

I understand completely.  Nevertheless, the Bible warns us not to forsake the gathering together.  So please allow the Lord to lead you to a Bible study or church where you are around other Christians, can share with them, study with them, pray with them.

Maybe its just time to find a new body to worship with?  We all grow and change...perhaps you are in a place that a change would be good.  Maybe a home church?

I would really like to change churches but my husband grew up in this church and he does not want to change.  The church is so big.  I grew up in a small country church.  Thus, the problem.

Is there a small women's Bible study you can join?

I agree!  A mid week one that is a smaller setting, more intimate and friendly, where deeper fellowship might take place?  You might find something that will meet that need for you lead by another body and you can still attend the big church you dh prefers on Sundays.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I really hadn't thought about that.  A good idea.  I also enjoy coming here to this site for "fellowship" with others.  I look forward to what others have to say about God, the Bible, Salvation and on and on.   ::smile::

Most church classes are led by folks who don't know what they're doing, may know little real Bible, and know nothing about adult learning.
Those are the breaks.
However, church isn't for you; it is for you to bless, encourage, and help others.

Then again, there's nothing that says you have to go to Sunday School.

H Robertson,
Thanks for your reply to my OP.  You pointed out that church isn't for me but a place for me to be used to help others.  That's a different take on this quandary of mine.  I believe I need to look at this quandary in another light.  Perhaps it is easier for me to "blame" the physical church for not providing for me when I should be looking at whether or not I am providing anything for the physical church.

It is more blessed to give than......

Christ and God look outward, rather than inward. That is the best way for us to live.

Keep looking for that different perspective, and you will do well.

Yep. I dont believe we will ever get all that we need spiritually from any church, and of course no church is perfect anyway. Maybe go with the mind set of welcoming new people, chatting to those who are alone and look lonely, helping with any setting up that needs doing, making coffee after wards, helping at children's church(they always need helpers) or whatever else needs doing.
However do try different churches to find one where you feel at home first.

jmldn2, I know that this is an old post, and I have no idea if you are receiving these messages, but it might help to seek out coverage of the march for life today.  There is going to be a lot of good coverage but not in the mainstream media, which is anti-life.  But seeing all these young people on fire for God and the dignity of the human person may lift your spirits.

I'm on the road back to my faith.  Praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
