I saw the movie today.  As someone from a Restoration Movement background, the things that annoyed me were the times when they chose to change or omit what Jesus actually said when it suited a pop-protestant take.  For example, in talking to Nicodemus, Jesus of the movie said that one must be born again, "not of the flesh, but of the Spirit."  When it came time for the Great Commission, Jesus simply said, "Go preach the gospel."  In both instances, why not just say what the Scriptures say?  Who, of any group, could argue with that?  My wife thought it was overacted and featured a pretty boy Jesus.  There were other choices I questioned, but good moments, too.  I just remember, in contrast, coming away from the Passion of the Christ thinking, "Wow!"  Maybe the bar was too high.  The Passion was more moving, and it didn't have obvious changes to bother me.  It was better done and more accurate than this latest effort, it seemed to me.  I say that, but it prompts me to want to watch the Passion again to compare.  Obviously, even though I was disappointed, I hope that God uses Son of God to his glory.  Of that, I'm confident He will.

Atypical for Helliwood doing their best to potray Jesus as some 'pretty boy' Prophet. However I do not think it is as bad as Noah. Not a movie I will watch - I've read the book and I know the real Jesus.

Was that not a description of Him DURING the crucifixion?

Not a point inwhich I will argue about. If you wish to see that discription based on just the beaten and murdered flesh of Jesus - that is your choice. However I will not contend with anyone on this for it is not worth it. I was just making a simple coment and that is all I wish to do. I have learned in Forums that it is best to keep things simple that way contention and me being thrown out are not able to happen LOL

To be honest I can care less since I do not watch the foolishness of man's idea of who Jesus is on trhe big screen. I remember when the movie "John" came out (I think that was the name but forgot) and within 10 min of movie both my wife and I walked out and told our whole flock they should not waste their money on foolishness like that.

Anyway I am just new here and trying to remain civil so will end this conversation on this note:

I used to have a good friend (have not had contact in many years) who was the last time we spoke pastoring a congregation in the Cleveland area.  He came to faith from being in a local production of Jesus Christ Superstar.  And that had some REALLY messed up theology and perspective.

It just shows that God can and will use anything to glorify Himself.

Movie was good, they didn't deviate from scripture and if it witnesses to some people or reinstills others faith then how can it be a bad thing?


Christianity is about winning souls.

I've read the book, and I've seen the movie too. Enjoyed them both, in different ways.

Looking forward to "Noah" as well.

Most believers go into these movies knowing that not everything in them will be literal or even accurate when compared with Scripture. Like DaveW, I know people who came to faith in Christ during "The Passion of the Christ."

I also know a man who saw the truly horrible "The Last Temptation of Christ," and was prompted, because of the controversy surrounding it, to study the Gospels for himself. He studied his way into faith in Christ. I baptized him and his wife.

God can hit a straight lick with a crooked stick. Even if that crooked stick is in the hands of "Hellywood" (that one made me chuckle) or To-Hell-ivision...

As BondServant pointed out, it was meant to "stir the pot", but probably not in the way he meant.

What Jesus looked like should be a non-issue. What difference does it make if he was 5'2" tall or 6'2"?
Weighed 110lbs or 210? Had black hair or blond? Blue eyes or brown? Light skinned or dark?

Hollywood is driven by profit, if they think people want to see someone like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise as their lead actor, that's who they will use to maximize their profits. Simple as that.

They didn't?  There weren't any "significant" deviations from scripture, but they were there.  Some were a little artistic license to "add drama" (like Jesus entering the tomb of Lazarus).  The scene with Jesus and Simon in the boat with the catch of fish (and calling him Peter then) was also different from the biblical narrative.

It was a great movie that I enjoyed very much.
