Hello everyone,
I am looking for advice on something. I'm currently in a relationship with someone quite a bit younger than myself (I'm the older woman in the relationship). The relationship is wonderful and our families and friends are supportive and see no reason the age gap should matter. However, I am unclear on how I might deal with some of the feelings I have about noticing being older in some areas of life, and have concerns about what the future would look like... will we grow apart, will the age difference become easier/harder, etc.
I would love to be in touch with anyone who has a significant age difference in their marriage (let's say 7+ years), especially if the woman is older, to hear advice and experience and wisdom. I want to be careful moving forward in this relationship and make sure I understand what the implications are.
Thank you!
17 years here. I'm older.
I'm fairly healthy and active though. But age is catching up with me.
There are times that the gap is noticed by me. Not too often. But I'm her hero.
What are your ages?
MY dads second wife was 24 years younger which I would never recommend, as when he died she was still only in her 40's with a young son. My brothers partner is about 14 years younger than him, and he said that he does notice it in many ways, and more so as they get older(he is 61 now and she is in her 40's).
I suppose the greater the age gap, the more it will become noticeable, but on the other hand if you are too young it will be very noticeable as well, such as if he were late teens and you were late 20's for example.
The main thing I suppose is that you are both Christians and that your aims and goals are similar. Such as do you both want children? Do you share the same moral values? Do you have the same desires/aims for your lives? Do you pray together?
I do know 2 marriages where the wife was 7 years older(both wives sadly now dead and husbands both remarried),and they seemed to be happy. One of them was my friend, and the other a relative of my husbands. However, I wouldn't call 7 years a significant gap anyway.
