Am I bad Christian if I'm not just listening to Christian music? There are many good Christian songs but i listen to other music as well. I'm a big fan of Babyshambles, The Libertines, The Specials, Blur, Madness and Kaiser Chiefs.
Is there anyone here who also listens to other music than just Christian music?
I've never heard of any of those you named, so I can't comment on those specifically, but I enjoy a wide variety of music. I grew up in the 70's, with siblings 10+ years older than me, and parents who listened to Big Band and Lawrence Welk, so an eclectic taste in music is pretty much a given.
iTunes tells me that I have 4.7 days of music on my computer. Here are some of the artists:
Acker Bilk, Air Supply, America, Amy Grant, Andy Williams, Audio Adrenaline
B.B. King, Bee Gees, Big Daddy Weave, Bing Crosby, Blondie, Bread
Casting Crowns, CCR, Chris Tomlin, Christopher Cross
Dave Crowder, Dean Martin, Delirious?, Doobie Brothers
Firefall, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller
Hillsong, The Hollies, Jaci Velasquez, Jars of Clay, Jefferson Starship, Josh Groban, Journey
MercyMe, Moody Blues
That's a very small sample, so you can see that I listen to a wide variety of genres. I think music is a great blessing from God.
The main scripture you need to keep in mind when making your own decision about the music you listen to is Romans 14:22,23 -
The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.
Did you catch that? "For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin."
That means that if you believe that listening to certain music displeases God, and do it anyway, you sin. The sin is not in the listening, but in the attitude that says, "I think this is wrong, but I'm going to do it anyway."
