I was newly married, at Bible College, and helping out with the sound in the church. There was a midweek marriage seminar taking place and, since I was available, I went along to manage the p.a.

Early on in the seminar the speaker asked, "How many of you asked God if you could marry your partner?"

This is church, right? Nobody does anything without first asking God his permission.

Well... I put my hand up, as I could honestly say I had asked God, more than once.

...I was the only one out of all that were there.

I tell you... I know I shouldn't have... but I felt rather silly.

Jimbob

Well, I can understand feeling silly because you were the only one, but maybe more should have, for not seeking God's wisdom in their decisions about such an immensely important choice, so don't get too embarrassed about that.

I did ask God about marrying my husband.  Not only that... I asked him if it was not his will, to close the doors that were open to that.  He opened more doors.  He confirmed for me that my answer was yes.

I picked my husband, I did not ask God to send my "soul mate" or the "perfect one"....  I asked him to guide me and answer yes or no if I should marry the one I fell in love with. He did.

I am absolutely certain that there are others who put this important question to God, and probabvly did a better job of it than I did. I just thought I'd share it to encourage others who are determined to be in God's will not to be afraid, even if it seems you're the only one.

It just seemed natural to me since I had dedicated my life to God that I should do that. I couldn't give him control, then do as I pleased, could I?

Not hardly.  You did fine.  You did as any child should do... you discussed your life choices with your Father.  The WORD says that is the way it is supposed to be.

But, many people marry before they are saved, and they do not ask God about any aspect of getting married.  That does not mean that when they get saved, they to not begin to seek His guidance in their marriage, it just means they did not ask him before.  Maybe some of those at your seminar fall under this situation... they married before knowing the LORD. Or they were not married at the time of the seminar yet.... who knows why you were the only one.

The truth is, you did ask Him, and that is the right thing.  Peace.

God gave me a word only 5 days after meeting my husband that told me that he was the man I would be marrying. The word has come true and it turned out to be a word that is incredibly relevant to my husband and I. Isnt God amazing?
if you are a Christian then of course you need to make sure that God is wanting you to marry that person. its such a vital descision to make. As kensingtoin said though, sometimes we marry before we are Christians so obviously we wont have asked Him then.
