I saw it this past weekend for the first time, and I liked it a lot. Cute, romantic, very funny.

However, I did have a different reaction to the baptism scene. I just thought it was sad to show baptism as something he did just to be accepted into her family and culture (and so they could have the wedding in her church), not because of any spiritual change of heart or acceptance of Christ.

Other than that twinge of disappointment, I thorougly enjoyed it.

I've put this off for some time and I'm not going to give the film a proper review, but here are my two cents.

I enjoyed this movie very much.
But........................................  I really don't see how this was the biggest grossing romantic comedy of all-time.  I can name at least a dozen other films off the top of my head that were better than this one, most of which I own.  Honestly, I don't get what's such a big deal and I won't be buying this one.

Nonetheless, it's a good little flick and I give it my Rental[/i] rating because it's worth a few dollars to take it home for a hot night with the little lady (or big-boy, as the case may be).

Truth is, by the time Wife and I watched it--amid all the hype--we were very disappointed.

If you like MBFGW, Monsoon Wedding[/i] was a better movie... if you can get past the subtitles and strange accents.

I know a number of families who could have been the model for it.  I think one of the reasons for its popularity is that it is politically incorrect, but no one can complain because Greeks made it themselves.  Isn't it nice these days when someone can laugh at themselves?

I'm not too impressed with the TV show, My Big Fat Greek Life.  Bunch of empty stereotypes walking around feeding each other and breaking dishes, I guess.  Maybe it will improve as the writers hit their stride.

I do like the star though.  If only because she refused to fixate on dropping weight, and she kept her nose.

Cute movie.  Good, clean fun.  Steeped with morals and values and importance of family.

My wife and I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding last night.

We enjoyed the movie very much, and found ourselves laughing hysterically several times (I especially laughed hard when Ian's soon to be new family taught him some Greek phrases that were not what he intended to say!).

I found the scene of Ian being baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church very interesting and inspiring.

This story of a man who loves a woman from a totally, radically different culture and family background, and agreeing to be accepted into and embrace that culture and family was uplifting to me.

If only we could be more willing to look beyond our own narrow cultures and reach out to others!

Did anyone else see/like this film?

Have not seen the movie or the spin-off TV program starting up.  Yet.  Hope to, as I was favorably impressed by the author/star.

Consolation, Winky:  I think the guy will either be driven to the Lord or the bottle to cope with that family of in-laws :p .  With that bride of his, it won't be the bottle.

I may be one of the few living people with access to seeing movies on the planet who has not seen MBFGW. I'm not sure why I haven't, several people from friends to my mother-in-law have raved about it.

So thanks, SoaPMan! Now I don't feel so much like I must be missing out on something!  :D

Maybe I'll see it someday. No rush though. Idea of seeing it just doesn't grab. I don't feel "drawn to it" for lack of a better explanation.

We watched it this weekend.
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

I bought the movie weeks ago, but just got around to watching it last night.  I thought it was hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It was also great to see a very funny clean comedy.  A must see in my opinion.  Of course I had to cry at the reception scene.
A good movie for a date or family night.

Since this movie was being discussed, my wife and I rented this last night.  I thought it was very funny.  The father was especially hilarious to me on many occasions (windex, when it was his idea to "let" his daughter go to college, then "I told you women should not be educated").  It wasnt the greatest movie of all time, but a good solid rental.  It was also pretty clean too. I give is 4.5 out of 5.
