The Carcass

[At_His_Feet]

A wavelet chase the small bird up the sandy shore and then turns and slides back into the sea. The bird chases after it jabbing the sand now and then with its beak.  The wave again rushes up the beach the small bird scissoring a quick retreat.

Above the little bird, white gulls punctuate the blue sky, riding the currents like commas, promising more to come.  Then one drops from the heavens sliding past two men kneeling before Him on the shore. It strikes the water with a white splash of spray coming up with a small slice of animated silver in its beaks. The chasing winds whip past the gull tossing the men's hair into the tears on their faces.

Like forgiven children, like prisoners released their overwhelming joy finds not containment and they can only kneel and worship Him.

The little bird passes by, tittering on its legs, on past the carcass of a dead swine bobbing in the wavelets of the blue sea.
