The changing world of me & music

Music has formed 60yrs of my life, & I have always preferred the atmosphere & feel of a song/tune, rather than the lyrics. In other words I like a vocalist to be like another instrument. My beliefs only got going in my 20's, which influenced later what I would listen to, when selecting a more Christian slant, so much so, that I even got rid of a lot of secular cd's.

As my beliefs changed from JW's, Anglican, Baptist & pentecostal, to knowing the truth of what I know now, it has freed me to listen to all music. I listen to the more edgier Christian type artists, like Iona, Third Day & Jennifer Knapp, along with secular stuff, like Radiohead, Steely Dan, Brand X, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn & Damien Rice.

I feel a bit sorry for what Jennifer Knapp has been going through, largely due to her lesbian tendencies. I don't claim to know the whole story,    & don't believe that anyone, whether gay or straight, should have sexual relations, outside of marriage. Even with marriages of gay/lesbian people, if they are God's elect, they should NEVER have sex, as their marriages would not be allowed by God.

That being said, & the songwriting talent, along with her unique voice, she must have gone through much turmoil, with all the criticisms of her lifestyle choices, especially being a role model to young folks. If she is elect, let's hope she remains celibate, but God will see to that, because He will lose none of His sheep.

Interesting!  I am quite the opposite.  I do like instrumental music and in some ways prefer it to the lyrical music. But I do love the great old hymns. So much of the modern "praise music", like the modern popular music, contains lyrics that are really quite banal and shallow of any real meaning.  If one were to simply read the lyrics as they occur in the musical presentation, everyone listening would think the reader was an idiot.  Not so the great old hymns, many of which carry profound doctrinal messages.

Nothing wrong with that, I did, when I went to church, but there isn't a church around that fits my belief & doctrine anymore, & like I said, I ignore the words, as they are way off, Of course, I do the same with TV, I turn away when there is gay & lesbian kissing, in anything. This time of year, I block out the tacky xmas 'musak' with my I-phone & earphones, with music I like. We have to do the same with blocking out people swearing, but anyway, I'm ranting.
