Did the early church worship on Sabbath?

We find much about the early church after Christ was resurrected, and the apostles went out to give the Gospel, and we find much that shows the early church worshipped on Sabbath. Not only did the Jews come for Sabbath but the Gentiles, and in Acts we see almost the whole city wanted to be there on the Sabbath.

Acts 13:42-44
King James Version (KJV)
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Now we see the Gentiles keep the Sabbath in Antioch as we see Paul when he came there, meeting with them in the synagogue on the Sabbath day.

Acts 13:14
But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

We see much the same in the early church in Thessalonica when Paul as was his manner, entered on three Sabbath days and reasoned with them out of the scriptures.

Acts 17:2
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

And we see more of the same in the early church in Corinth were Paul went every Sabbath and we clearly see it says "persuaded the Jews and the Greeks."

Acts 18:4
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

And we see it was the same thing that Christ had done when He was in His ministry before Paul.

Mark 6:2
And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Luke 4:16
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Luke 4:31
And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

As had Christ, the Paul worshiped in the early church on the seventh-day Sabbath. We clearly see that in his travels Paul attended the synagogue on the Sabbath with Gentiles and Jews, and preached Christ. Even in places where there was no synagogue, he searched for where the early church met for Sabbath worship.

We find much in history that shows the early church observing the seventh day Sabbath which nearly all Protestant, Orthodox, or Roman Catholic theologians agree was true, and showed that the Sabbath was clearly spread throughout the world in the early church.

1) Synagogues are a man-made invention, just as Purim is a man-made invention.

2) The original routine sabbath per the covenant that Moses' people agreed upon with God per Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy requires only a weekly intermission in one's daily labors, viz: God did not, nor has He ever, set the seventh day aside for worship.

There was a time when I had the energy to be patient with slow learners. Not anymore. I'll be 80 next month, plus I have n-stage esophageal cancer and on my second round of chemo. From now on, those who can't keep up get left behind.

What does Gen 2:2-3 mean
2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Rella,

Are you now under the Mosaic Law?

Merely answering....

Deuteronomy requires only a weekly intermission in one's daily labors, viz: God did not, nor has He ever, set the seventh day aside for worship.

Perhaps not calling it worship but hallowed and sanctified is not just
tailgating all day long.

Of course He did.  As a Jew, he was required to keep the Sabbath.  Read Acts 15 and 21.  The release from the ceremonial parts of the Law (other than the blood sacrifices and sin offerings) were/are still incumbent on those of Jewish stock.

Dave does that not make Paul's statement that there is neither Jew nor gentile but all are one under Christ void of any meaning?

So how will Christ judge who is worthy of the kingdom when He comes for the saints.

Amo

Quote from: Hobie on Thu Dec 21, 2023 - 09:48:46So how will Christ judge who is worthy of the kingdom when He comes for the saints.

God will not judge the saints when He returns, they will have already been judged in Christ Jesus our Lord. By choosing to hide their lives in Christ Jesus our Lord, fighting the good fight against the flesh, and "principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places", they have passed from death to life evermore. There is no future judgment for them. Their lives are hidden in Christ Jesus our lord. The saints will take part in the future judgement of the unsaved, who alone face judgment and execution for rejecting the divine love and mercy of God almighty. The saved have already been judged unto eternal life with Christ our Lord, which they receive at His second coming.

1Co 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? 2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

Jhn 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

The judgment of this world has been going on since our Lord decided the issue. Those who choose to follow their Lord in this world, need not fear the future judgment of the wicked unto the second death. They have passed from death to life eternal.

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

1Jn 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us.

The saved receive their reward at our Lord's coming, life everlasting with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No more judgment lies ahead for them, they have hidden their lives in Christ Jesus.

Are you now under the Mosaic Law?

Same old same old, as though Mosaic Law and God's Law are the same thing. The New Testament preaching the ever confusing message of keeping it according to its unchanging nature, and disregarding it according to its apparently changing nature at the same time. NOT!

2Pe 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
