The Winter Olympics started this evening.  Are you going to watch?

marc

Watched some of the opening ceremonies tonight.  I've become a bit interested in snowboarding after watching some of the x-games, and will, as usual, watch whatever other sports catch my eye.

Mere Nick

My middle daughter snowboards for the high school team, so I bet she'll be watching that.

The luge, bobsled and skeleton are my favorites.  Hockey is sometimes cool but they don't have enough brawls for those of us who don't really know the game.

I miss Eddie the Eagle.

I'll watch as much as I can, but working full-time, teaching three night classes and working on a dissertation proposal is going to severely limit my TV time.

And then there's my being a husband and father, so, you know . . . not much TV-watching in our home.

That's funny.  After watching in Russia (tickets were just $2) I don't watch here--because of the brawls.

Those who can play, those who can't brawl.

Bon Voyage

The Canadians which basically made hockey, would disagree with you there JMG.

I usually don't watch the Winter Olympics.

I don't have television right now, so I will not watch.

That's no excuse!  :D  C'mon; where's your patriotism!  Rent a big-screen flat HDTV and spend the next two weeks comatose on your couch like a true American!  :D

I always wondered why basketball wasn't in the Winter Olympics.    That's when you play it.

Then that's their problem.  I consider good sportsmanship a part of the game, and those who lack it are losers no matter what the numbers on the scoreboard, thank you.

I was watching the ski-jump portion of biathlon last night, wondering if I'd see a repeat of the old Wide World of Sports agony of defeat crash.

Living in Detroit I can watch both the US and Canadian TV networks coverage. This means with any luck I can miss most of the fluff and see more of the events.

But with Valentine's going out for dinner, a night at a b-ball game with my son and my wife's sudden desire to redo the bathroom...well watching will be limited.

We don't play hockey around here and we don't understand it all that much.  We don't even really know good hockey playing when we see it.  We do appreciate a good brawl, though.

When the minor league hockey team was here in town, a good brawl got the crowd going more than a score by the home team.

When does the curling start?

Keep up with how good the United States athletes are doing at the above link.
