Let's see; this is one where you must run several ideas up the flagpole and see who salutes it:

The Lord's Lagniappe Church

no, guess not. How about:

Jesus' Family

Bayou Church A church of Christ serving Southern Louisiana

Need to think some more, will try posting when brain gets back in gear.

Naming a new church group is hard, and takes lots of thought and prayer, not necessarily in that order.

One I heard recently was ". . . a Church of Christ Family" that could be used whether you went with "Sunshine Church" or "Spirit-Filled Church."

Ah Cher!  Mon ami!!

Janine,

I thought about Bayou Brethren the other day, but Bob beat me to a similar name. It just occurred to me that it is a name that leaves out half the church, so don't use it!

Instead, how about God's Family of Bayou Brethren & Southern Sistern.

Hmmm... maybe we'd attract some wandering Mormons.  We used to run a Church of Christ information/goodie bag booth at the Woodbury County Fair in Iowa.  Folks would glance at the sign and assume we were Mormons.  Until we disabused 'em of the notion.;)

Y'all have brought up one of the book titles floating around in my "things to write" file: The Brethren and the Cistern

Hummm,

How about Christ's Church at _

Sounds good to me.

And in neon, too.  Might as well give the 'gators something to bellow at.

I've always loved variations on that; one of our congregations had "The Church Meets Here" on a big sign facing the highway.

Saves people from thinking the building is the church.

Should we end up moving 'way down the bayou or up into the next parish within the next couple years, we will likely work on growing a congregation of the Lord's church nearby, rather than all of our group Christian life taking place hours away from home.

Well, when it comes time to be identified in the community, when it comes time for a newspaper announcement, or a sign out front, or church-to-church correspondence, what are we gonna call our group?

Name that church!  Help us out here.  We may as well get prepared with an accurate, loving, obvious, uplifting congregational name, well before we go.

Nothing wrong with "church of Christ" or even "Church of Christ"... we just may want to have something with that on the letterhead or the sign by the road.

It will likely meet in our home for quite some time; we'll want signs and letterheads and correspondence long before there is a "church building", though.

Help me out here.  What can you all come up with?

"Battle Axe  Church of Christ"

"Foy Wallace Memorial Church of Christ"

"First Campbellite Church of Christ"

...on a serious note:

"Loving Kindness Church"

"Sunshine Church of Christ"

"Bread of Life Church"

Thanks for the laugh.Hey,any of the three last ones would appeal to me if I was driving by.

Janine,
My parents planted the CoC in their home over 70 years ago.No name at all.You are to be commended for even thinking about it.

I probably would be more tempted to attend one with coC.

I thought about saying for fun to call it "Funny Farm CoC" but decided not too..ooooopppssss.Sorry,couldn't resist.

God bless,Charles
:p

janine

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will treasure them up until it comes time to do something about it.

Bon Voyage

Mardi Gras Church of Christ (Christians Gone Wild).

The Church of Jesus Christ of the Bayou Saints

Phil Wilson

If I were starting a new church, the name would be Grace Church of Christ.

Bon Voyage

Louisiania Back Bayou United Southern Methodist Baptist Lutheran Presbyterian Church of Christ Assembly of God.

Now you just need a sign big enough.

Renee

Hi janie...

How about a name and sign reading.....

             "Servants of Christ "
Sharing His Love in our community and abroad

patriciaredstone

There's something pure (if old fashioned) about those signs that say "The Church of Christ Meets Here." It describes our present, dependable "I will never leave you or forsake you" Savior. People are looking for that. They NEED that.
