I have been into sports and exercise nearly my whole life and have recently upped my intensity with my weight lifting and diet. I am 5'4 and weigh 170. I started getting serious about my health after having my son 2 1/2 years ago. I am also completing a personal training course. If anyone has any questions or comments I would love to talk. I know a fair amount about diet, supplements and exercise so I am just throwig it out there.

Hi JolietKev - I too like weight lifting, but I'm too old to get real competitive about it any longer. I normally go to the gym five days per week up to two hours per day, and am building back up to my former routine after taking off for six months due to caring for a family member prior to their death.

I presently do pushes and cardio three days, pulls and legs two days per week. After three weeks I'm back to moving thirty-seven tons, but am aiming to get back to fifty ton workouts at least on leg days. I will probably limit myself to that unless challenged by someone half my age; competitiveness is hard to outgrow. Prior shoulder separations and elbow dislocations cause me to be a bit more careful than I used to be though. I am going to limit free weights to 200 lbs and machines to 270 lbs at least for the time being.

I do not take supplements, nor do I diet as I should and need to drop around twenty pounds, but my wife loves me anyway. I'm not wealthy enough to have a live in masseur, so she does her best for the limited time she does it.

Bad knees now keep me from league basketball, football, and racquetball or I would be able to suffer all kinds of hurt; God knows what He is doing to slow us down.

Well enjoy your workouts. I also find it a place of great opportunity to witness. May God bless you in Jesus' name - larry2

weight lifting is good for building strength and weight for muscle is heavier than fat.  To eliminate fat the best i've seen was treadmill and bicycling , anything cardio.  For years and years i worked out but as I get older its less often.  I only get to the gym twice a week now.  Actually not at all since I have had this flue.  I do enjoy those endorphins tho. GOD Bless.

I have been bodybuilding for some 30+ years now.

As first it was because I am a small person (5'3"), and I got picked on a lot in school.

But. as I got older, I realized that bodybuilding is more than just having large muscles.

It is a way of life, as God intended it to be.
A building up of the physical, as well as the mental aspects of a person.

God's plan of Salvation includes the building up of the body and mind.

God is concerned with the body's health.

Romans   12:1   I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.

12:2   And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Thru Bodybuilding I learned about the effects of food, on the bodies health and wellfare.

There is a body-mind connection.

What effects one, effects the other.

Body building is worldly.  Sister White would not be impressed.
Yes, Bodybuilding can be worldly if a person lets it be so.

BUT, the very concept of bodybuilding, is based on God's Health message.

By that I mean, bulding up a person's immune system, strenghtening both body and mind.
Learning how to prevent diseases, in ones self, and others.

Learning how to use natural methods of healing, ect.
The use of herbs, and foods.

True Remnant Church - Body building is worldly.  Sister White would not be impressed.

larry2 - This is comical - There is a picture of her having braided hair. She also dressed in a dress with puffed sleves, and ornamental buttons.

Then I read in 1 Timothy 2:9  In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

In Jesus' name - larry2

Hello JolietKev,

I am just getting back into weight training after many years of stop and start training and lack of motivation.  Really trying to make it stick this time.  I'm 33 now, but when I was 18-20something I used to train hard on the weights.  I presently weigh about 72kilos and am 5 foot 6 inches.  I've put on about 15kg since the old days but I'm looking on the bright side and hoping it'll help me push out more weight.  :)

I train (on a good week) four days.  Mon & Thur - chest, shoulders and triceps, Tue & Fri - legs, back and biceps.  I'm just doing the basics at present, and have been following this program for about 4 weeks... and I have a few questions for you. If you don't mind.

* when do you think I should change my routine.. especially if I'm not always consistent?
* can you recommend a good routine to change to, that's not too advanced and still covers all the essentials?
*  do you have any tips for staying motivated?

thanks heaps!

::bowing::  (if we prayed like this I'm sure we'd get a workout!)

I had to quit bodybuilding because i'm married now and all the women thought i was awesome when i was all jacked.
