Hey, I'm listening to the Pepperdine lectures right now, even as I type!  From a couple of years ago.  Joe Beam's talking about "Seeing the Unseen" (on the Sonstream site, of course).  He referenced this site a few minutes ago and invited those who disagreed with him to come here, if I understood him right, and write an article giving their opinion!

winky

Wiley, I'll go resurrect the ACU lectureship thread in the announcements session so we can see if anyone else plans to come from this board (and arrange a get-together if possible) without hijacking the Pepperdine thread.

Wendy

P.S. Hey, what's this about having to "settle" for the ACU Lectureships! Although, I have to admit that an argument could be made for the desirability of Malibu, CA, over Abilene, TX...:lookaround: ACU Lectureships are pretty good stuff too - and we've got some neat additions this year.

I will be at the Pepperdine Bible Lectures (April 29-May 3, 2003).  Perhaps we could have a "Grace-Centered Magazine" lunch or something??

In fact if anyone is bored enough  :zzzz:   perhaps they might come to the presentation to be presented by myself, The Gospel According to Moses: The Spirituality of the Book of Deuteronomy.

Booklets of the Lectures can be obtained from:

Pepperdine University
Department of Church Relations
24255 Pacific Coast Hwy
Malibu, California 90263-4270

or

310-506-4270

Hope to see you there,
Bobby Valentine
Milwaukee, WI

Bobby, pleased to hear you are on the program. The only two things keeping me in Florence are my schedule and my lack of finances. Have a great time in California!

My husband and I are finalizing arrangements to attend the Pepperdine Lectures in the spring.  We have not been before, but hear it is awesome.  I am so excited to be going, all the kids are staying home!!   Also, we are taking two couples with us who are brand new believers.  Will this be overwhelming for them?

Do any of you plan to attend?

Berean

Looks like I might make these lecturships this year.
I haven't been before but have heard lots of good things.

Wendy,

Well, I have to admit that Mark has done a great job   with resurrecting Lectureship.  They were having serious "heart" problems until last year.  It really came back strong last year  and, if he keeps going, his leadership will make it a equal with Pepperdine along the way.  He has a great lineup of speakers this year also, and some interesting classes.  I'm still waiting for him to let Katie Hayes be one of the featured speakers (Sunday night opening assembly preferred :D )!!!  Her husband and father-in-law are both teaching classes this time.  I think he also needs to add yearly classes on the study of females in leadership positions, but I'm happy to see more females being used in teaching classes.  Of course, having a daughter who is a Children's Minister with a Masters from ACU in Christian Education makes me kind of opinionated in this area:D .  I've been attending Lectureships since my daughter, Shannon, was a Freshman at ACU.  Until last year, they were mostly (IMO)politically correct (traditional) and somewhat carefull about what was taught to avoid up setting some of the private funding sources.  That seems to be changing--YES!!!!!!!

The next comments I'll make under the other thread.

And now--gentleladies and gentlemen--back to the Pepperdine thread.  As the Jews say "next year in Jerusalem", Lord willing!

I actually attended ACU for 2 1/2 years before I transferred back home to Denver.  A lecture series that is good might give me reason to go back someday.

I am definately looking forward to hearing Katie Hayes in Malibu!!

I hope I'm going to be able to attend.  If so I think a grace-centered lunch would be a good - I look forward to your class too - Great topic.[/quote]
I'll be looking for you. You should be fairly easy to identify since the other three who will be there will be my wife, myself and the introducer  ;)

Shalom,

I'd covet your trip & be envious of the spiritual time with adults (& especially Hubby) if it weren't so sinful of me to do so!

I'd attend them like a shot if I was able to get out there... trips to the Left Coast are 'way out of my budget-league.

Nothing I've ever heard about them would overwhelm new believers... unless they we very new, and Pepperdine set them even more on fire, then you had to bring them back home to a real stodgy congregation...

:noddingsmiley:

The Pepperdine lectures are well worth your time. I look forward to ordering some of the Genesis tapes. Wish I could make it. Make sure you attend Rick Marrs' presentations.

I will pass on your   to Mark and tell him to keep it up!

Hey Bobby-
I hope I'm going to be able to attend.  If so I think a grace-centered lunch would be a good - I look forward to your class too - Great topic.

Now that's a good idea!

I will be at Pepperdine this year.  I can't wait!  Just got my plane reservation today.  Now it feels official.  Hope to meet some of you there.  grace, Julie

I used to live by Pepperdine (at least my parents did) but I never made it to the lectures.  Heck, I didn't even know that had something called the lectures when my parents lived there.

If they were still there, I'd make a vacation out of it and go listen.

Wish I could make Pepperdine but I can only get off so much time in the year and the cost of travel & lodging would break my budget.  I have to settle for the ACU Lectureship--have free lodging (twin daughters in Abilene-one an ACU student) and it's only 2 hours from the house.

If anyone is going to be at ACU in Feb, let me know.  Maybe we can get together.  Last year I met Fate and PatriciaRedstone at Lectureship.

The next event on the schedule is Stream in the Desert at Midland the last weekend of March.  Jeff Walling will be there this year.  FFH is scheduled as the Saturday night entertainment!

Berean

That's right- ACU lectures have definitely improved.
I love to hear Jim McGuiggan & Landon Saunders!

Wendy,

Tell Mark that the person who said that is the guy he chatted with on email a year ago about the changes to the old Elders/Deacons dinner becoming the Men's Fellowship Dinner--who has a daughter who is a Children's minister!  Bet he will remember those emails!  I wanted the elder's/deacon's/minister's dinner on Tuesday evening opened up to females being recognized for their ministry and it became basically a men's only fellowship meal.

socrmom

Bobby, I just might show up to your class as well.  A GC lunch would be great.  Just let us know when and where.   :p
