Enlighten me please.

Where do I begin?... I have written much on Grace Centered about different movies, TV shows and books (from the Golden Compass, to Harry Potter, to Bruce Almighty, to pornography). A thorough search of my almost 17,000 posts should prove as much. I have also mentioned and spoken out against several different movies, TV shows and books while preaching, or speaking over the years (from Friends, to the Simpsons, to South Park, to Desperate Housewives). In fact, in a recent sermon I entitled, "America Bless God", I made several such references to demonstrate the continual moral degradation of our nation, and even more so, the church in this country... Need more?

Thank you for your rather long list of things you have spoken against. I'll pass the first one since it is the movie in question and move to number two on your list Harry Potter.  You preached against the evils in Harry Potter, so did you include in your blogs, and sermons the evils found in the Wizard of OZ?

I know that you want to be above board so I know that you included the Wizard of OZ in those sermons since there are good witches and wicked ones.  Did you also preach and blog against the Star Wars movies?  There are wizards (Jedi's) in these books and films as well.

I am going to assume that you did not.  You can correct me if I am wrong and I'll apologize.  You see no one got in an uproar about these two movies with witches and wizards. But if I am going to get all twisted against one book about a wizard then I need to get just as twisted about every book about wizards and witches.

James, I'll try to explain this again.  My problem is that the church has become so defensive in her theology that we stand on the street corners and preach, blog, and sign petitions to show what we are against.  But when was the last time we told people what we were for? What we stood for?  How we believe that Christ can make a difference? When was the last time that we lived like people with character? Like a light in the darkness?

I still say that if the church was more like Christ we wouldn't have to waste our time telling everyone what we are against. They would see what we were for, Without us telling them, and that will cause people to want to come to know Christ.

Living for Christ differently than the world lived cause the first century church to grow. The church of the 21st century is dying. Maybe it's time that we lived differently.

Makes sense.  I know that the communication is improved when we can discuss aspects of a movie or a book we both have seen or read with a whole lot more substance than to simply point out that I am above such tripe.

What do you think of the movies, "The Golden Compass?" Does it have an anti-christian influence? There's been contraversy over the story promoting atheism and going against the gospel message.

God is killed in the end! Don't see it. The author even claims that it is meant to counter "The lion, witch and the wardrobe." Focus on the Family put out an email called Plugged In http://www.pluggedinonline.com/ which reviews films, books and music.

edit: sorry if this is in the wrong place. Move it if you want.

I have read all three books, and I have no doubt that the outspokenly atheist author had some idea of writing the Anti-Lord of the Rings.

But, of course, he failed.  As if he were but an ant on the beach writing hate letters in the sand.

I, for one, don't even know what is in the theater's right now.  I have been "homeless" for the last 2+ weeks

I see this was your last post (12/28).  Is everything going OK?  Are you really looking for a home?

His profile lists his location as "Inside An Active Volcano", so obviously his computer's only working sporadically.

now that everyone is saying that this movie is anti-christian i think i should avoid it. however, when i read golden compass the novel, i didn't realize that this novel was anti-christian at all and still believed in God. i also back then used to listen to a lot of anti-christian music but never put too much importance to the meaning of the music and never lost faith in God at all. Does a form of entertainment harm my soul even if I don't think it does?
