"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it."  - Thomas Jefferson

Perhaps we should "organize" a march, with banners containing that quotation, in DC in front of the capitol just to remind them of the liberty, not equality, that this country was founded on.

Richard

It would have to be a really BIG banner and they would have to march really slow so everyone would have time to read it.

Some other interesting Jefferson quotes:

"The moment a person forms a theory, his imagination sees in every object only the tracts which favor that theory."

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.  We may consider each generation as a distinct nation, with a right, by the will of its majority, to bind themselves, but none to bind the succeeding generation, more than the inhabitants of another country."

"I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale."

"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto."

"The spirit of this country is totally adverse to a large military force."

It's unfortunate that Jefferson, a man of some wisdom, rejected the teachings of God's Word...
