Final Fantasy XII

I just finished this game, and on the whole, I came to love the story. Quite a bit of substance, and really tackles the themes of parting with the past and revenge, showing what becoming free of that bondage really means--incidentally, free of the ones manipulating those desires (of letting go, desiring vengeance, etc.). I don't agree with it word-for-word, but it's not pedantic about its business anyway.

It's a little ham-handed in some ways (plenty of things that bug me about it) which can make its complex story, but is pretty much as epic as it gets--sober and meaningful. It's worth watching the cinematics on youtube just to watch.   And there are scenes in this game that blow Star Wars out of the water toward the end.
