My adult children know I have an interest in family history and genealogy.  I'm the unofficial family historian since none of my cousins have an interest.

For my birthday earlier this spring, they bought one of the ancestory . com DNA tests, set up an email and ancestory . com account.  They know I'm a bit of an oddball about my privacy so they set up the bogus accounts so I would use the DNA kit.

Two weeks ago, the results came back; no really big surprises since I knew I'm English and Scot-Irish anyway.  However, I'm 8% Spaniard, tracing it back to northern Spain.  Guess not all those Spanish sailors were drown when some of the Spanish Armada were lost at sea off the English coast.  ::kissing::

My question is, have you tried one of these tests?  Where you surprised by results?  As a result, did you discover distant family?

Hi Marie in Virginia.

No, I haven't tried one of those DNA tests, but my father's grandfather was sent to Cuba (where I was born) from Spain, as a child.

I am almost certain that my father's mother had African ancestors, more than likely slaves.

And on my mother's side, she claimed she had French ancestors.

So, I am probably a mixture of Spanish, French, African and maybe Taino or Ciboney.

Cuba's Indigenous Population
Posted by: Lindsey Bramson on Jan 20, 2011

In 1492, when Columbus came to Cuba, there were three indigenous groups already living on the island.  They were: the Tainos, the Ciboneys, and the Guanajatabeyes.
The Guanajatabeyes were the original indigenous group to live in Cuba; they were the smallest in number and lived in caves.  They gathered fruit and food.  They lived on the Western part of the island and were pretty isolated; unlike the Tainos and Ciboneys, the Guanajatabeyes hardly ever came in contact with the Spanish.

How accurate are they? I already know that I have mainly British ancestry, but also Italian, Spanish and Irish ancestry, and one of my great grandmothers was American, so not sure what ancestry she had, could have been anything.

They are quite accurate.

My youngest daughter has been going around my wife's family, doing these tests.  I have not seen the results yet.

To understand the image of Daniel 2 one must look at ancient history.  Note the decline of the image from gold to clay.
God had given domination to Babylon (Jer. 27: 6-28:14).
The gold head ( Neo-Babylon 605-538 B.C.)
The breast plate is silver (39a). Two arms= Medes and Persians.

Silver is inferior to Gold in what way? Two possibilities. (1) Duration? the Mesopotamian Empire was basically uninterrupted down to the time of Sargon III; i.e., 2,000 years. The Persian Empire Empire lasted 200 years.

The decline of the image continues. The Mid-section and thighs--bronze as the primary metal. (39b). Greco-Macedonian
The legs (iron) vs. 40. The iron might of Rome.
History reveals that Rome dominated the then known world.

Feet: iron mixed with clay (vs. 41-43). Again, one must be familiar with ancient history to know that in the decline of "mighty" Rome it absorbed Germanic tribes and became a decadent dictatorship.
Rome did not fall as much as it crumbled from within. No rival empire conquered Rome.
Note that Rome was replaced by no world empire. Pagan Rome came under the influence of the Gospel.

The toes: Please show me where the number "TEN" is given.
It is an assumption the image is in human form with ten toes.
How about ten lessor kingdoms all of which gradually disappeared with the disintegration of the Roman Empire?
Again---study your ancient history. Ten divisions: Anglo-saxons; Franks; Alamanni; Ostrogotms;
Heruli; Vandals; Visigoths; Suevi; Lombards; Burgundlans.
The feet and toes can be no other than Historic Rome: now crumbled into history!

All the kingdoms mentioned in the image were seen to rise and FALL except the Messianic Kingdom that would "stand forever" (v. 44).
Jesus "PREACHED that this kingdom was "at hand" in Matthew 4:17; was "NOT of this world" (John 18:36); and there would be "some standing with him (as He spoke) that would not taste of death until they saw the kingdom come with power" (Mark 9:1).
It is this kingdom that will be delivered up to God (1 Corinthians 15:24-26).
Interesting that Jesus mentions "church" and "kingdom" as synonymous in Matthew 16:15ff.
Christians are said to have inherited and to be in the Kingdom of God (Col. 1:13,14; Hebrews 12:28; Rev. 1:9).
