Hello,
Im new here, I sought out this forum as I want opinions on the way me and my wife are living our life. We are both recent born agains, and we are trying to live a Christian life but we also enjoy our old party lifestyle still. We go out to clubs , get drunk together, dance, do things we would rather forget the next morning etc etc.
I dont know, I guess im just trying to see if any others have been through this and how did you do it and to what extent, is there any room for getting drunk as a Christian?  ::shrug::
Thanks i  advance

Childish behavior that you will both grow out of if you keep following the Lord.

Getting drunk is not good.  The bible is plain on that.  But neither is a messy diaper. Consider them somewhat equivalent.

Thankyou for the reply. very fast. ::smile::

would you want to be doing any of that stuff if Jesus were with you...

and i think if you are even asking this... you are being convicted of it and know you shouldnt be doing it

There is room for relaxation, but for people who are really born again of the Holy Spirit of God, I believe, that one major effect of the Spirit working in you is that you will start to love spiritual things and derive your pleasure from them, and the things of God. Ungodly old habits tend to disappear.

For example I used to watch a lot of sports, and played games.

I don´t any longer. God gives much greater joy than the things of this world, and He diminished my appetite for them.

I have experienced great spiritual growth.

All thanks to God, not because of what I did. If I had any part in it, it was surrendering to Him.

Worldy things can hinder spiritual growth in my opinion.
I haven´t been a Christian for a long time, but I have noticed, that the less I indulge in worldly things, the more intimate I become with God. And it is the greatest thing.

I urge you to make your election sure. You and your wife´s. She´s your responsibility.

Just because somebody told you you are now a Christian, or do this and do that and you´re now of God, is not a good enough foundation for assurance, in my opinion.

Read your Bible diligently. Pray a lot. Take time for God. Be intimate with Him.
Treat Him like your Father and your best friend and your doctor and your psychologist and your teacher. He´s all that and much much more!

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5)

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

If you experience the peace of God, then you will know.

As you can see in my signature, if anyone be in Christ, he is a new creature.
Old things passed, behold, all things become new.

Dancing and heavy drinking may very well become old things for you.
And I believe that you shall be delighted about it. This may seem weird to you now.

Perhaps you will still go to a dance now and then, but probably less often and I think with less desire for alcohol. Just like I still watch some sports on television occasionally or play a boardgame with friends, but it´s not important to me any more whereas it used to be a joy. I find it increasingly boring and superficial.

Welcome to the forum. May God bless you and your wife in your walk with the Lord.

Thankyou New creature,
I think for some born agains the moment when they convert then they really change right then and all their bad old habits stop immediately.
For us we seen to be taking longer, and we know its down to us and our own self discipline but we will get there .  IJN

The ones that I have seen the really radical immediate change in are those who's life may depend on that intense change.  There were reports of people coming to faith back in the late 1960s Jesus Movement that had instant cures for serious heroin and other hard drug addictions. No cold turkey, no withdrawl, no DTs.

Most people however have to walk the process of growth out over several years. And that is fine.

I think my major problem is I am procrastinating in my faith, we currently live overseas due to my work in a very very kind of in your face city with regards to bars/clubs etc. But also the Church's here from my observations are very business orientated and full of contradictions and hypocrisy. So I keep saying we will start "proper" when we return to the UK and awayfrom all this craziness.
I know theres no time like the present so I'm going to make an effort to change now, Ephesians 5:15-17 is a good one.

Thanks for the wise replies  ::clappingoverhead::

I like drinking, too.  But, I don't do anything I'd rather forget the next morning.
