Miracles are evidence, although not proof of the faith.

I believe God uses them to bolster our faith.   On the other hand, they in and of themselves not proof.  Satan can appear as an Angel of Light.

Still, I believe God uses miracles in my church and even if others to deepen our faith (even if
our well of faith is pretty shallow).

You may not have heard of the Myrrh- streaming icon of The Virgin Mary with Christ called Iveron
Icon.  The Iveron Icon in the US is actually a copy of the original Iveron Icon.  Myrrh started streaming
from this icon in a parishioner's house in Hawaii and is known the Hawaiian Icon.

I am linking to a news story on secular media about the Icon.

May God be praised.

What does God say about idols and such like?
He says to destroy them. This isnt of God.

chosenone,

No, idols and icons are not the same thing.  John of Damascus explains this clearly in the 6th century.

The seventh ecumenical council (787)  supports the use of icons in worship.

In short, some people got carried away with Greek philosophy (the uselessness of anything physical)
and tried to stamp out icons (which have been worship tools for the history of the church).

Is a picture of Jesus an idol?  No.  The more you look into it the more icons make sense.

Why would you want a picture of Jesus, no one knows what He looks like, and where are we told in the Bible to use such things in worship???

Chosenone,

Why do we have any pictures?  They remind us of the image.   We have pictures of our loved ones,
why not of Jesus?

But there is even more to it.  Jesus is God in the flesh.  If we believe that, how could we
not portray him?   To not do so is to not recognize his presence on earth.

Think about it:  what makes Jesus different than anything in the universe.  God loved us
so much that he came in the flesh and walked among us, identifying with the human condition.
Without his physical presence, He wouldn't be Jesus.  So, we should recognize that.  How can
we without using images?

Again, the church itself saw the importance of icons to resolve the issue by ecumenical council.

We in the eastern part of Christianity focus more on the incarnation than the west does.
Many Protestants don't worship with all their senses.  We in the east do.
And we don't ignore sight because of some Greek notion that the physical is less important than the spiritual.
Unfortunately, the Reformationists went back to the Greek philosophers and this Platonic idea invaded Protestantism.

Yes ~ do not take unto any image to worship ~ before me for I am a Jealous God ~ But there is no prohibition of the worship of God or revering Saints nor the Mother of Jesus, this is not worship ~ "Tho Shall Have No Other "gods" Before Me" ```
