Employee soon to be ex-employee.

How do you deal with the situation when you know an employee will soon be an ex-employee? Does this cause you any stress or not?

A little background may help. We work security and I'm this person's immediate supervisor. This person was warned and told repeatedly that he was not doing his job. I've told him that he wasn't doing his job even though he said that he was. I know this because one of the security cameras covers the area where he sits. He's been written up repeatedly and even though I've told him that he has to do what he hasn't been doing he still does not do it nor his job. He said that he likes his job but he's not doing it. So seeing that I cannot bring him around I let my superiors know and it seems that he cannot bring him around as well. He was given a three day suspension and that has failed to produce a change. He's a nice guy but, like I've said, he just isn't doing his job.

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Is this guy a close friend or something? If not, I don't see what the problem is. He was warned multiple times about not doing his job and refuses to change, so he needs to be gone. Get someone in there who actually wants to work.

Why would this cause you stress?

The fact someone is going to be replaced and probably fired as a result and training someone to fill his place. Is it just me or should these not be so much a concern as I make them out to be?

We all have portions of our job that we don't like, and it sounds like training a new hire is something you don't care for. Just remember that training is a short term responsibility and don't fret over it.

Just learned that my supervisors have decided to let the person go. It is a bit sad and somewhat distressing to know that he no longer has a job but he brought this upon himself.

Perhaps it's the only way he will learn the lesson.

Its not nice that anyone has to loose their job, but this man seems to have had enough warnings.

I hope so. But he was given not a few written and verbal reprimands and even those failed to correct his behavior.
