Thank you 4WD for your reply.
You had asked what does the word finger mean.
In Psalm 8, the word finger means God's miraculous, effortless,
exact & resplendent creative power & ability.
While Science attempts to explain how the earth works,
but there so many miracles in the Bible that Science cannot explain.
Like Manna falling from Heaven,
Parting of the Red Sea,
Quail sent by God,
Water from a Rock

Exodus 16
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.
13 That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was.

Moses said to them, "It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.

Exodus 14:21–22
"Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left."

Exodus 17
5 The Lord answered Moses, "Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

As I mentioned earlier, science does not preclude miracles or providential acts of God which are against His natural law, and all such fall outside the realm and purview of science.

Science is different from the Christian religion.
But many verses in the Holy Bible teaches how the universe was made (which in itself is scientific), without needing man made theories & laws to prove anything,
Thus proving not only the limitless power of God but also that God has made everything in order.
Whereas science tries to explain what has already been made by God.
But according to some people on the internet,
they think that
science can explain everything & can even take the place of God.
But not only are they misleading themselves but others as well.
Science is only meant to explain what has already been made but it cannot replace the extraordinary supernatural miracles.
And this should be clearly understood by people in the world.
Science comes with theories & laws that so many people in the world,
have begun to treat it higher than the Christian religion,
but actually they don't realize that science cannot explain everything.
And this is necessary to understand.

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:3

As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed ....
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
Ecclesiastes 11:5

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 19:26

Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the whole world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Psalm 90:2

No, that is not quite true.  There are many passages in the bible that teaches us that God created the universe, but none of them actually say how He did it.  Genesis 1:3 says, "Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light". That says that God brought forth light, but it doesn't give us any insight into any process whereby He did that.

The same with Genesis 1:6. It says, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." That says that God made it happen, but again it doesn't give us the process, if any, whereby that all happened.

Science attempts to explain the process whereby all such things happened.  I think that science is pretty good, and getting better and better, at describing much about the process. If you don't think that, that is fine with me. But please do not try to tell me that I am wrong if you have no understanding even of what science is presenting.

I would suggest the work of Gerald Schroeder on bringing science and the bible together.  You can look him up on the web.  He shows, for example, how both the six 24-hour days and the billions of years of creation can both be absolutely and literally true.

A good place to start:

Thank you for your reply 4WD,
It will be nice to read about bringing science & the Bible together.
I have a good understanding of Science & its various branches, theories & laws as I have studied Science.
And I have also studied about Biblical Scripture.

I know that, Science keeps coming up with new cures for ailments & new theories & laws,
But what I was saying was that despite science making improvements in cures & medicine
& other areas, but still, it can't prove many things.

And whenever a few people read about Biblical miracles, they are finding ways to prove them scientifically,
Little do they realize that science though has a lot of laws but God is far greater than any textbook with man made laws.

Moreover there were some scientists who made a few laws, only to be replaced later.
And many theories are quite conflicting.
And in some cases what science tried to explain, with theories, is coming out to be incorrect.
And that's because man made theories & laws are not fool proof.

Science is quite interesting but still can't be compared to God & can never be compared to Him.
That's what I was trying to say.

Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago.
Isaiah 25:1
Amen.

Was reading about the earth being formed
4.5 billion to 4.6 billion years ago.
The Earth and the rest of the  solar system formed from a giant, swirling cloud of gas and dust.
Then gravity pulled these tiny particles of dust and rock together over a span of 10 to 20 million years to build our planet.
About 335 million years ago, all the major land masses collided to form the giant supercontinent.
About 200 million years ago, this giant supercontinent started to split apart into two smaller pieces .

Over the next 140 million years, those large pieces fractured further into the separate continents and continue to move slowly today.
Then a Mars-sized body crashed into the early Earth, giving out a massive ring of debris that combined to form the Moon.
Volcanic venting released water vapor and gases, creating an early atmosphere.
And as the planet slowly cooled, the water vapor condensed and rained down to form the first oceans.

Now some scientists are trying to prove that the six day creation & the earth being formed in billions of years can literally be true.

Now, if people see the verses in Genesis,
it has been written that the earth along with its inhabitants,
& the heavens
was made in six days & God rested on the seventh.

Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

This shows that first God created the heavens and the earth.
But this verse also shows that when God must have made the heavens & the earth,
His work must have been perfect,
not imperfect.
Because had their been imperfections, then how could it have been God's work?
God is perfect & exact in all that he does.

Now science tells people about how the earth, atmosphere & the oceans were made.
And according to science it took billions of years.

So a perfect God created an earth in just six days,
which according to Science formed in billions of years?
Both Scripture & the scientific theory are not matching!!!
Because God created a perfect earth, which did not need billions of years to form, as He Himself is perfect.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

So according to Scripture God created the heavens, the earth & its inhabitants.
Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

This shows that in six days God created both the heavens & the earth which included the atmosphere & oceans.

Now according to science the earth was formed in billions of years which included the atmosphere & the oceans.

Again, Science tells that sponges were present 540 million years ago,
much before even  dinosaurs first appeared on Earth which was around 250 million years ago.
And man came much later, about 65 million years after the last non-avian dinosaurs went extinct.

Whereas again, Scriptures teaches believers that within six days all living things were created which included the earth, oceans & atmosphere alongwith the heavens.

Both Scripture & the scientific theory are not matching!!!

Again, pre-historic reptiles went extinct 66 million years ago,
but just about 1460 years ago,
yet still some species of marine reptiles were seen by the local people in the areas where they lived.
They would often hear strange sounds & a huge mass under the surface of water.
And some even claim to have seen these massive reptiles.
Since scientists  could find no conclusive proof,
they rejected these sightings.
But some scientists do claim that readings were taken by a fishing boat . Its crew noted that there was a large object keeping pace with the vessel.
Again, scientific theories are contradictory.

Though science is very interesting & comes out with laws & facts about the earth,
but still some theories are opposing each other.

pppp

Regarding the formation of the earth,
Scientists say that over the next 140 million years, those large pieces fractured further into the separate continents and continue to move slowly today & are colliding,
& believe plate movement will only truly end 1 to 2 billion years from now.
Scientists have also predicted that the constant shifting will eventually push all the continents back together into a new supercontinent in another 250 to 300 million years

But here Biblical Scripture says that Our Creator God has control over everything, which believers of Christianity, sometimes attach roughly to Earth's active geological nature.

Job 9:5-10
He moves mountains without their knowing it
and overturns them in his anger.
6 He shakes the earth from its place
    and makes its pillars tremble.
7 He speaks to the sun and it does not shine;
he seals off the light of the stars.
8 He alone stretches out the heavens
and treads on the waves of the sea.
9 He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.
10 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
    miracles that cannot be counted.

Again Joshua 10 tells of God's control over the universe.
Joshua 10;12-14
....... Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:

"Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon."
13 So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped, .....
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

Science does give laws & theories,
But, no matter what science says,
the believers of Christianity must rely on God,
who is most trustworthy.

2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal".

Something interesting I wanted to share ...

According to Science,
pre-historic reptiles went extinct 66 million years ago.

But in Job 41,
God is telling Job about the leviathan.
From the description, leviathan resembled a massive sea reptile.
And from the verses its clear that both the Leviathan & man coexisted.
So again, both Scripture & the scientific theory are not matching!!!

Job 41
New International Version
41 "Can you pull in Leviathan with a fishhook
or tie down its tongue with a rope?
2 Can you put a cord through its nose
or pierce its jaw with a hook?.....

Getting back to the light thing.  When God said let there be light, what did He mean?

Light is simply the response of certain biological functional elements, such as our eyes, the eyes of animals, and some feature of plants to a specific range of electromagnetic radiation. If there is nothing in the beginning which is responsive to that particular range of electromagnetic radiation, is light really different from darkness?

Just asking.

Yes, all the reptiles did not go extinct.

Allegators, crocodiles, and some other reptiles did not all go extinct.
The pre historic reptiles (dinosaurs) went extinct 66 Million Years Ago.

The present reptiles are not the massive sized dinosaurs & belong to a separate group, but share a common ancestor with dinosaurs.
Both the present day alligators and the extinct dinosaurs belong to a major reptile group called Archosauria.

According to Science, about 250 million years ago, during the early Triassic period, this ancestral group split into two main branches:

the Croc line; led to the present day crocs, alligators & other reptiles.

the Dinosaur line; Led to non-avian dinosaurs and, eventually, the present  birds.

So you agree that the earth and the universe is more than six or ten thousand years old?  Good for you.

pppp

Thanks for your reply 4WD.
You had asked is light really different from darkness?
To start with, the question is , what is light?
Light is energy. And light consists of photons moving through space as electromagnetic waves.
These photons carry momentum, generate heat & even interact with matter.
And what is a photon?
A photon is the elementary particle of light .
And the smallest possible packet of electromagnetic energy.
Whereas darkness is simply the absence of  photons.

And living things make use of this light.
Even if no living thing existed, light would still interact with the universe, like it would warm the planets.
In this respect, light is different from darkness because it is the presence of energy & while darkness lacks it.

pppp

4WD you asked What is light?  .......and what was spoken of in Genesis 1:3-4.
Good question.
I'll try to answer it.

The light that is mentioned in Revelation 21:23
is the light of God.
This light will bring illumination in the New Jerusalem.
And there will be no night.

And there will be no need for the Sun or Moon either,
because now the source of light will be God Himself.
And the Lamp will be Christ Himself.
God's light will not only provide the light which was earlier given by the sun or moon,
but it will also be the light from God, which will contain the relief, warmth, comfort, joy, peace, safety & protection which was not on the earth.

The earth has both light & darkness.
Whilst light sustains life on the earth,
the night too is not bereft of light,
& this light shines through the moon.
But there is another aspect of the light & night in the lives of God's people.
While the light is like the joy, freedom & peace which humanity deserves,
the night is like the pain & suffering in the lives of God's people.
But Revelation 21:23 tells of the ultimate eternal light of God.
A light which was since the beginning & will last forever.
Amen.

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
Genesis 1:3

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 8:12
Amen.

4WD

Quote from: pppp on Sun Sep 13, 2026 - 09:11:21And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.Genesis 1:3

1 John 1:5

John 8:12
In contrast to the light in Genesis 1:3, I believe the "light" in those verses and in many other places in God's word is not speaking of the physical light of electromagnetic radiation.  It is metaphorically speaking of Jesus, of God, of the divine beings.

I believe the same is true for passages such as Revelation 21:23-24.

thanks for the reply 4WD.
I think that this topic about the creation of the earth is interesting.
What I wrote about the earth being formed & the extinct reptilian animals is given by Science.
But the Holy Bible tells believers that the Heavens & the earth along with its inhabitants was formed in six days.
Both views do not match each other.

But though science in itself is interesting & teaches us  various laws & many  theories,
yet still it cannot be compared to the limitless mind of God &
the marvel of His creation.
The problem with the mortal human mind is that it cannot believe in anything without a proof.

So, the mortal mind turns to science to provide evidence for possibly every miracle or miraculous happening given in the Holy Bible or happening in this era.
Whereas what is required by the believer of Christianity is to trust in God.

But the human mind is fickle & always needs a law to prove everything.
It believes in what is seen & because of this belief,
human beings keep relying on laws & theories.
Whereas people though have seen numerous miracles/miraculous happenings, which have taken place, & are also a huge part of reality & are true,
but some have failed to trust them, because of lack of scientific proof.

The question is ...how can the human mind with their limited knowledge, explain these miracles/miraculous happenings,
performed by the limitless knowledge, power & wisdom of God?
This again shows that belief, faith & trust in God is necessary to believe.
And this is enough.

And though science may attempt to provide supporting proof but is incapable of proving everything.
The purpose is not to go against science but just to see the truth which is in God Himself.
And again the purpose is not to disapprove every law of Science,
but to clearly see what is not matching with The Word of God about creation.

And once people begin to realize this, people will begin to better understand how the earth was made & which science laws support this.

Thanks for your reply 4WD,
I read the article.
According to it, the six days of creation described in Genesis is equivalent to billions of years,
as each day is ranging from 1.8 billion to 0.25 billion years.
Thus proving that evolution took place, according to the article.
But again, physicists & other scientists debate this theory.

But there's something interesting that I just read about prehistoric dinos which were extinct 66 million years ago.
In this era, the existence of soft tissue fragments were found inside dino bones.
Standard laboratory tests showed that soft tissue should have completely broken down & disappeared in less than one million years, but these soft tissue fragments were found inside dino bones.
So, this again, proves that the theory of evolution is not matching with this finding.

Then again, science says that man descended from apes.
This theory was later discarded.
Then again science says that  human beings and modern apes share an extinct common ancestor.
And this common ancestor was living about
6 to 8 million years ago. And no direct fossil of this exact species has been found yet.

The Holy Bible does not mention anywhere that God first made a common ancestor to both apes & humans.
Instead the Bible says that before man was created,
God created the land animals & this included all the land animals.
This again proves that the theory of evolution does not match The Holy Bible.

And Genesis 1 tells us that God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, .....
This shows that God made man in His own image & man could not have had a common ancestor with apes.

Genesis 1
26 Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Then science says that  sea sponges were the very first animals to evolve on Earth on the shallow ocean floor.
But The Bible says that God first created all the living creatures in water & also birds ....20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky."

But the Bible says ''creatures'' not just a single water animal.
This again proves that the theory of evolution does not match The Holy Bible.

Another thing is that along with the  living creatures in the water even birds were made.
After that God later created animals on the land.
...''24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds''
But according to Science birds evolved from small, two-legged dinosaurs.

This again proves that the theory of evolution does not match The Holy Bible.

The purpose is not prove that every theory or law in Science is wrong,
but to clearly see what is contradictory & to understand the truth.
And the truth is the Word of God,
Amen.

Rella

lets leave out of the equation that "science" deems the age of everything including fossils and mud and rocks. If, and I am not saying this is true.... hypothetically if the earth and all of our sun , moon stars and solar systems were created however many years ago based on the estimate that 4.54 billion years is the estimated age of the Earth..... WHY IS IT NATURALLY ASSUMED THAT EVOLUTION HAD TO HAVE HAPPENED. And before Adam walked into the garden. I do not trust the testing they use. I have read too much about the means to trust them. But even so... if the earth itself is that old.... Rella needs some splainin on why things before were involved in evolution.Lets not venture if there is some kind of life on other planets.... but should there not be?

Quote from: pppp on Mon Sep 14, 2026 - 13:45:52And Genesis 1 tells us that God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, .....
This shows that God made man in His own image & man could not have had a common ancestor with apes.
That image could only be our spirit.  God is spirit not physical, so we are in made physically in His image.

I would point out that there are only three instances in Genesis 1 in which it is said that God created.  The first was heavens and earth. Some Hebrew scholars would tell you that the phrase "the heavens and earth" is a merism, which is a rhetorical device (or figure of speech) in which a combination of two contrasting parts of the whole refer to the whole. In this case it is the stuff from which the entire universe came into being.  I would claim that action was the big bang.

The second instance was verse 21 which created life in the oceans.

The third instance which says that God created was man, which I take to be the spirit of man, not the physical being of man which is pretty much the same as the animals which came about with God's phrase of "let there be....".  That is not a statement of creation.

We need to be very careful and not conflate the words, "God said let there be" or "God made" with "God created". They are not the same and they do not mean the same.

So then, I believe that those three instances wherein God is said to create agree quite well with the process science generally given that science does not really address creation as such and certainly not the spirit of man at all.

Quote from: pppp on Mon Sep 14, 2026 - 13:45:52Another thing is that along with the  living creatures in the water even birds were made.
After that God later created animals on the land.
...''24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds''
But according to Science birds evolved from small, two-legged dinosaurs.
I do disagree that birds evolved from two-legged dinosaurs.  I think it more likely that birds were first, then the land based dinosaurs.

Quote from: pppp on Mon Sep 14, 2026 - 13:45:52The purpose is not prove that every theory or law in Science is wrong,
but to clearly see what is contradictory & to understand the truth.

I would agree that there appear to be differences, but I think the general similarities speak more strongly to an Old Universe Creation theory that any Young Earth Creation theory.

I believe that life is indeed a creation. If there is life anywhere else in the universe, then God created it; it didn't just happen.  And if that is so, then there must be a reason for that creation.  The is no suggestion in Scripture that there is such a reason and there is no basis even for science, not having any rational explanation for the beginning of life, to assume there is life elsewhere.

Thank you Rella for your reply.
Scientists believe that evolution took place due to the following reasons.
The earth shows bones & shells of creatures that are no more.
Then there were gradual changes; the deeper layer of rock hold fossils which are older & are simpler compared to the top layers which hold the fossils of more complex animals that resemble the modern species.

Scientists look at evolution happen in viruses & bacteria.
Germs build resistance to medicines because of natural evolution
and as the fittest survive when they are open to medicines.
Then there are species which look similar having matching molecular language proving they share common ancestors.
And many of which are now extinct prehistoric animals.

And Science also tells us why things were evolved.
This took place because simple chemical systems & molecules which replicated  naturally produced variations etc.,

If you the verses in Genesis ....
it is written .."Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds ,
the word used here is land. So the animals that God made were land animals.
Next the verse says ....''...and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.''
Again the word used here is ground, So the animals that God made were land animals.

Genesis 1
NIV
24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make.

My point was that According to Genesis 1, God did not create the land animals.  Rather, it says "let the land bring forth....." and "God made...."

Neither of those, strictly speaking, indicates creation. You are free to think otherwise.

As I indicate, there are only three instances in Genesis 1 where it says that God created.  I consider those three to be (1) the substance from which everything is made; (2) the initiation of life as in living beings; and (2) the spirit of man.

But perhaps that is just me.

Thank you for your reply 4WD.
You had written ...I would claim that action was the big bang.

This topic is interesting.

The Big Bang Theory states -
That the universe started as a tiny, hot & dense point.
And it was a rapid stretching & expanding of space.
As the universe expanded, it cooled down.
And the age of the universe is about 13.8 billion years.

But again Christian Scripture contradicts the The Big Bang Theory.
In Genesis 1 the earth & the Heavens were created on the first day. And the sun, moon, and stars were made on day 4.

Genesis 1
New International Version
The Beginning
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth."
And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Whears acc., to the Big Bang Theory the stars & galaxies were formed billions of years before the earth.

Then in Genesis 1 God made creation in six days.
Wheareas acc., to the Big Bang Theory,
the universe expands and develops over approx., 13.8 billion years.

Then Genesis 1, God made the earth as a cool, dark place with water.
''1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.''

Whereas in the Big Bang Theory the universe starts a as a tiny, hot & dense point that is cooling.

Science is interesting but The Word of God is true,
Amen.

As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord's word is flawless;....

Yes indeed.  God's word is always true.  But one's interpretation of God's word very often is not.
