Bon Voyage

Things are so bad after the football season we have to talk about college basketball.

Jeff

I have to confess I went to bed about 10:30 last night.  I wanted to watch Duke-UNC so badly, and started to watch the second half.  I was wiped out from work and anticipating yet another 5:00 a. m. wake-up this morning, so I grudgingly went to bed early in the 2nd half.

Read the Yahoo box score/recap this morning and went, "Arrrgghhh...."  Sounds like it was a great game -- yet another chapter in this classic rivalry.

My 12 y/o and 15 y/o are playing church league basketball and they've started watching some games with me... it's been really helpful for them to watch the ball movement and strategies of different teams.  The college women's games actually provide the best forum for them because it's a bit slower and the half court game is more easily seen.

Duke winning?  Cool?  Well, it's hard when one is a Terp fan to find anything about Duke being cool - even beating North Carolina.  But, then again, that goes to show you Terp mentality and we're so schizophrenic this year who are we to judge what's cool and what's not.

The ACC's will be awesome, baby.  By the by, Nick, it will be interesting to see if Maryland can rise to the challenge once again on Saturday.  I have a hunch I know your answer to that question.

In all seriousness, good luck!

Steve

I amazed they would let a Twerp fan post on this board!

Seriously, it seems we Carolinians will back any ACC team when they play someone who is not.  I like it best when it takes an ACC team to beat an ACC team.

That was funny.  Twerp, huh?  Well, well, at least I don't have to add a letter to make a point, I just change the "D" to a "P".  Ok, I apologize.  That was unnecessary - forgive me.

Anyway, let's root our teams on tomorrow night and may the humbled one offer the other congrats!!

By the way, I think the ACC is awesome.  (Not sure how I feel about the additions, but looks like Miami, VT and BC are not going to embarass the conference in b-ball.)  We know our conference is getting much more respect in football.

Watch out NCAA - the ACC kicks it!! :D  We will accept all who pay homage....

Mere Nick

Duke - Puke?  Well, with some the e at the end isn't silent.

Come to think of it, I expect the Twerps to give the Pukes a fit since they beat Duke at Cameron.  What ever it takes to get as many ACC teams as possible in the NCAAs.

Mere Nick

Twerps 99 Pukes 92.  Rats!!!

segell

Nick -

You're funny.  Sorry for your team's loss.  You know, Duke hadn't been swept in 10 years.  Go Terps!!!!

And I agree, lots of ACC teams will go to the dance.

Jeff

The really amazing thing about that game was all the Duke players that fouled out... Duke has gotten a rap over the years as having the refs in their pockets (especially at Cameron.)

Not sure what it's going to take for my alma mater (FSU) to turn the corner in this sport.  The loss at Wake this past weekend was more than just painful... it calls into question the entire direction of the program.  I believe in our coach just as I did in Steve Robinson before him, but I watch what Roy Williams has been able to do at UNC in just a couple years, and I have to scratch my head.  We've got the money, the facilities and the fan base.  Sure, we're lacking in tradition, but I believe that can be built.

Being in the ACC should help Florida State be somewhat more competitive in recruiting compared to other conferences.  But if you have a problem with FSU basketball, don't complain too loudly in the presence of a Duke football fan.  You might just have to offer a shoulder to cry on.

History plays a big part.  When you think of sports and FSU, football comes to mind.  Likewise, if you think of Duke and Carolina and sports, basketball.

Perhaps FSU thinks of basketball like Duke seems to be thinking of football.  An off-season sport.

Nick:

Rumor has it that a few years ago, when Duke was handing FSU its lunch in Cameron, the crazies started the chant, "Stick to footbal... stick to football... stick to football."  Pretty funny!

We surprised the ACC when we first entered the conference in 1992.  Of course, we had Bob Sura and Charlie Ward on those early 90s teams.  I guess that's why I still hold out hope that one or two strong recruits plus effective coaching can at least make us competitive.  I'm also gratified to see that the Leon County Civic Center is starting to fill up for important games (we didn't do that for UNC a couple weeks ago, but hopefully that's an aberration.)  During the last years of Coach Robinson's tenure, only Duke would fill the place.

Mere Nick

Jeff,

I'm fairly certain FSU will beat Duke in basketball before Duke whups FSU on the gridiron.
