Would it be appropriate to bring Valentine's Day flowers to this girl?

This may be a silly question...

I have been seeing an Evangelical Christian girl (woman?) for a little over 4 months. We are both in our 30's and have never been in a serious relationship. I have my own home. She is the oldest of a large family and still lives at home.

I was a not practicing Catholicism when I met her, but since, I have been exploring my faith and strengthening my knowledge of the bible and my relationship with Christ. We are going to church together now; searching around for one we both like. And we are attending a class (small group) at one of them that will last the next 8 weeks.

Things have been going great between us. We refer to each-other as boyfriend and girlfriend, but we have not been physical (no holding hands or kissing). We are both on the same page regarding how a relationship should be built. That is "starting with a spiritual foundation, then emotional and then physical". I am halfway through reading Love, Sex, and Lasting Relationships by Chip Ingram for a second time. This is a book she recommended to me.

I am also in good standings with her family. I have been to their house several times, have helped her father with a couple projects, and I am having breakfast with one of her brothers tomorrow morning.

My problem is, the household in which I was raised was somewhat liberal from a relationship perspective. So, I am not well educated on Christian dating etiquette.

My simple question: Is it appropriate to bring her flowers on Valentine's Day? That night I'll be picking her up to go to dinner and then our class at church.

I was afraid it would be perceived too far in the realm of "Hollywood romance". Especially since she is setting an example for several younger sisters.

Perhaps I over thinking this? Should I ask her Dad? I have his cell phone number and we text on occasion.

Thanks for any advice. :)

In the situation you described, I think asking her Dad may be the best idea.

Not sure why giving someone flowers is such an issue. Its just a bunch of flowers. Giving flowers has nothing to do with Hollywood, and you have been dating her for 4 months now.

My dad sent flowers to my mom when they were courting, as in headed toward the aisle.

I had flowers sent to me by a man who wanted to woo me.

For me, flowers is a serious gift.

I would think chocolates would be more appropriate and well accepted for Valentines day.

But that is just me.

I am with chosenone, giving flowers on Valentines day to a woman you have been dating for four months I would consider expected.  Personally, when I was dating my wife, I wouldn't have given it a second thought, and as a father of a young woman in her early twenties it wouldn't bother me one iota.

That said, neither would holding hands, or a respectful kiss, so perhaps you might not want to be taking advice from me.   ::eek::

Did he bring flowers to her on V-Day or not? Inquiring minds...  ::eatingpopcorn:

Haha. Yeah. I brought the flowers (without asking Dad). It was no big deal. I was overthinking the situatuation as I do most things.

We had a wonderful evening.  ::smile::

Yes, and most people have left home are independent from parents way before that.
