the ncaa is putting the squeeze on college teams with indian mascots regarding post season participation.

if the ncaa can tell a school what mascot it can't have, they will soon tell a school what mascot it must have.

time for a new association.

I heard an NPR report recently about that -- before they issued their fatwah though --

Some schools, maybe in the Dakotas, actually asked the Indian tribes concerned if they minded the use of the name for the school teams.  They were told -- officially, by the tribes, that it was OK.

Think of the moneymaking possibilities for an official marketing connection between tribes and the school in question.

I wish wish wish the mascot the student body voted for at Stanford had been allowed by the school -- when they held elections to decide which way to go after they couldn't use an Indian theme, they wanted the "Stanford Robber Barons".  I'd have followed that team!  I like that.  But it was a no-go.

I wish that the SEC, ACC, and the Big 10 would pull out of the NCAA and set up their own governing body. Maybe then we could have some rules that really made sense.

By the way there is a community college in the Dakotas that's mascot is the fighting whities.  I think that's awesome. We need to get rid of all this PC bunk.

Absolutely, the NCAA will regret the day they did this, Florida State football is religion and because Florida State football is consistently good year after year they gets lots of TV time...

I expect the Florida State faithful to amp it up big time...

and for the record the Seminole tribe of Florida has given its ringing endorsement of the use of Seminole to Florida State, seems like the only ones offended are the PC crowd at the NCAA
