P.S.  I am shocked (SHOCKED!!) that Baylor didn't make the poll.[/color]

Weeble

I am glad to see the SEC represented so well.  I just hope that it looks this good at season end.  GEAUX TIGERS.

Jim Abb

Purdue could be the sleeper on this schedule. They don't play either Michigan or Ohio State. If they can beat Iowa, which will not be easy, they could go into the Bowls undefeated.

spurly

This year's National Champs will play at Kyle Field in College Station!  Go Aggies!

marc

So you're picking Texas?  Looking at A&M's schedule, they would seem the most likely team that plays at College Station this year to win it all.   ::detective::

First off lets be clear about who is daddy in college football...

Thats right OU baby, the Adrian Pederson train is coming to reek some havoc... I love how Texas is rated above OU for about the 100th year in a row in the polls, but when we win the Red River shootout by a scores of like 63-14 Texas title dream comes crashing to an end in October!!! (Texas is rated 2, OU 5 in the USA Today poll... when will these "experts" ever learn???)

OK, all biases aside hear is my Rose Bowl prediction: USC vs. Michigan, Pac Ten vs. Big Ten...

USC has a cupcake schedule, their toughest game might actually be Fresno State. Cal and Arizona State are the only other 2 teams that pose anything that might even be considered a threat. The PAC 10 is plain pitiful and USC does not have a non conference game against a ranked opponent, USC will coast into the Rose Bowl.

Michigan has an even easier non conference schedule than the cupcake one USC aranged for itself, but the Big Ten is a much better conference. October 22 at Iowa is probably the biggest challenge, Ohio State is at the big house in the season finale and if Michigan is undefeated this could be a real danger game for the Wolverines.

The SEC is so good it is hard to imagine anybody doing what Auburn did last year, but the team to watch out for is South Carolina, Holtz did all the recruiting now Spurrier will open the playbook from the dark ages to the 21st century. I think South Carolina will go 8-3 and will end either Florida, Tennesse or Auburn's national championship dream.

The ACC with BC, VA Tech and Miami is starting to resemble the SEC where you just can't realistically go 11 games without getting tripped once. Florida State will get tripped one time and forfeit a chance at national championship.

As much as I love OU, they lost a lot of players and some teams in the Big 12 are much closer to them. Not only do they get there annual game with Texas they finish at Nebraska, home against A&M, at Texas Tech and home with OSU (the last 3 all finished 7-4 in 04 and Nebraska is never a gimme). The Big 12 is a step below the SEC and ACC but light years ahead of the PAC 10.

OK, you got my mini college football preview, I will shut up now!!!

my humble 2 cents

Rick

Weeble

Rick,

USC has signed a game with Arkansas, so maybe the right reverend Nutt will have a miracle in the Bag.

GO HOGS!

Mere Nick

Duke got a vote!  Go Blue Devils!

No, really!

Bon Voyage

Go Big Ten!  I don't know why you who are in the CofC would cheer for teams in the American Calvinists Conference or the Southern Episcopal Conference.

We don't pull for the BT because they're Beelzebub's Teams.

Weeble

How many teams make up the Big 10?  Could it be 11?  ???

You need to be able to count before you can count.

I thought the Blue Devils played in the ACC?   :headscratch:

marc

btw, Campbell lived first in Washington, Pennsylvania, then in Bethany, WV (then Virginia, but he wasn't a Cavalier fan, and was in fact one of the first to suggest splitting away from the Old Dominion).  Both are very near West Virginia University, in the heart of Big East Country. ::nahnah::

Yes they do, but everyone knows Satan wears red longjohns.

Here is where the name comes from:

French, huh?  I wonder if the NCAA will allow their mascot to appear in the postseason.  :D

Their football team has certainly shown French tendencies over the years.

Apparently, Oklahoma will be banned from participating in any Bowl games since "Oklahoma" is from an American Indian word.  Hmm...how about the Dakota's.

Bon Voyage

If Indian words had to be taken out a good portion of the colleges that have the name of their state in it would have to be covering up their uniform during the post-season.

DCR

That actually eliminates most states.  I count 26 out of 50 states that owe their state name to Indian words.

Origin of State Names

Bon Voyage

That leaves Northwestern, Penn State, and Purdue in the Big Ten not having to cover up in the post-season.

marc

fwiw, I've heard that story on the origin of Arizona's name before, but never bought it.  From what I understand, it's an open question, and a shortening of the words "arid zone" seems to make more sense.

Particularly if you've ever been stranded several days in Phoenix in 115 degree weather.

marc

btw, Washington owned slaves, you know.  ???
