I had never,and they are very good.

As to it not honoring God.

It was never nor will it ever be sung in a church or at a prayer meeting. Nor will you ever find it in a hymnal if your church has music.

I think people hear the "hallelujah" part and references to to Bible characters and think it's a church song for Sunday morning worship.

True. On the surface, just halfway listening to it, it comes across as a peaceful, happy, positive. Read the words to that song - it's the antithesis of a good, positive song.

I'm not a fan of this song, it may not be a God honoring song but I also don't find anything offensive about it either.

I think the reference to David and Samson and how easily they were steered off course is rather brilliant.

I also understand that Cohen was Jewish so the omission of Christ in this song was purposeful yet intended to be shared among any and all faiths.

Somehow the 4th vs got cropped, I added it back but still don't see it as offensive.

There are other versions of this song, another version that Cohen wrote and released on another album and several artists that add or subtract to the song but most often it's Cohen's original version performed, as was the version Rella posted here.
