local church with no building, connected online? Hm . . .

I wonder if anyone has heard of the following:

Online community, NO central church building, but everyone in it is local, close enough together to visit each others' homes. For some big gathering, maybe rent a place -- occasionally.

I think the benefits could be tremendous, especially because a community like that could actually hire more people as teachers, multiple elders, and various others for time spent with spiritual gifts. That kind of thing seems more like what the epistles describe.

Yes, I realize that the church of Acts had some kind of central location for gathering. But in terms of budget, I'd think that staff might be a better priority.
