A pyogenic granuloma is a soft, fleshy, vascular growth which often occurs on an extremity.  They are misnamed, since they are not pyogenic (pus generating) at all.  Because of their vascular nature, granulomas will often bleed, and are generally red in color.  If, however, there is redness radiating out around the granuloma, that would indicate infection.  Granulomas must be removed surgically, and the entire mass must be excised; otherwise the granuloma will grow back again.
