The bible never speaks of comfort.  Control is biblical, no where in the bible is comfort or happieness mentioned.

This topic went completely off in another direction. I began this thread with the intention of opening the eyes of those who are dating or are married. (I could have put this in the marriage section) I have seen things that have been very discouraging with the aging of parents. Yet, I have seen endurance in the caring of a loved one. I have seen patience and gentleness in the heart of my dad. Life can make or break a person. Tragedy can lead one to ruin or can be a period where you truly allow God to work in your heart.

My faith has had its ups and downs. My dreams of being married years ago did not come to pass. I am too old to start a family and not rich enough to offer much support for an already made family. I do not know what God has in mind for my future regarding dating. I do not have much of a desire. It is more melancholy or kind longing.

I want to say this when it comes to dating. Dating is looking down the road at the person. Should you fall in love, can you take care of this person? In sickness and in health. My dad and mom learned that in their care for each other. Yes, they had their struggles. However, my mom learned years ago that comfort is better than control. My dad learned it in taking care of her. COMFORT NOT CONTROL is what God truly wants in a marriage.  ::prayinghard::

I do not believe we read the same Bible. God wanted to comfort the nation of Israel. He loved His people. This is covenant language. God has always defined relationship in covenant language. The comparisons between God and man and man and woman is clear. God has true love. Unfortunately many men do not have or show such love in marriage.

God did love isreal but there is no expectation of happieness or comfort in the physical sense only rule and law which is control.  The bible is full of thou shalts and not to much enjoyment, comfort or fun if it was there would be alot more christians.

Actually jesus came to bring life and life abundantly and Gods laws were described as perfect, just and good.

The problem with being a christian though, is that you have to obey God. And that's where you seem to be having all your problems.
You try to use scripture to justify your arguments and then ignore them when you don't like what they say.

Now you're trying to say that God is too hard which is why more people arn't christians.

Without rules there is anarchy. People choosing to reject Gods laws and do whatever they want is the reason for all the worlds suffering.

When someone is a christian they make the choice to lay down their own will and obey Gods. Pretending that that isn't necessary is hypocrisy.

A christian obeys God. Anyone who refuses to obey God and his word is not a christian.
