Are there trustworthy sites for meeting other committed Christians? I'm very wary (as are my parents) of the WordlyWeb but being a  highly traditional Catholic makes it not so easy to meet likeminded people in the offline world.

celine

Thanks a lot. It looks promising. Just need to  run it past my parents.

Celine, you don't meet people at church?

chosenone

celine, my son met his fiance on christianconnection.co.uk. It is a very good and nice British site that has its own good forum as well. As you are British it may be a good one for you.
I met my husband on one in the UK but it was very small and I cant even remember what it was called. if I find it I will get back to you.If I were you I would keep away from international ones, too many scammers and con men/women.

That tends not to be very sociable. Those  boys whom I have met are often attending under parental pressure or even just habit rather than deep conviction. There is a headlong secularisation of society here in the UK  and people wear their religion lightly. Our family's traditional, faith-led values doesn't strike too many chords, unfortunately.

Thanks, chosenone. I will look it over.  Your family are a good advertisement for love on the net!!

Thank you Celine, I appreciate that very much. more than you will know at the moment. I actually know several people who met their partners/spouses this way.
I have to say though that I was on internet sites for 2 years before my lovely guy came along, but thats because I was in my 40's and available Christian guys of that age are very rare indeed. My son got loads and loads of messages, and is now engaged to the first girl who e-mailed him,and she is the most lovely Christian girl.

Then maybe you should find another church.   ::idea::  Not that the church is supposed to be a dating service, of course, but a church without a lively fellowship is (IMHO) either dead or dying.

One does have to be a little careful.  Unless you have special equipment you cannot really see who you
communicating with.  You might think you have a 23 year old fox  who is really a dirty old 82 year old man.LOL

                                        not me

I think maybe this reflectsa cultural difference between UK and US churchgoing? We are I think more reserved. Certainly, religion here  also generally seems to be much more at the margin of people's lives. I don't think switching churches would make any difference even if it was an option.

That's what worries me (and my parents). I can't even be sure that you're not really 102 lol.

1-  ::headscratch::  Brits can't make friends at church?

2- Then why bother looking at all?   ::eek::  Hence, the strategy of choosing a mate among people you know already go to church.  Or would you have better luck meeting a suitable fellow believer at a pub?

3- Why isn't it an option?

Of course I'm going to bother looking. I would like to meet the right person.  Not in pubs though- I don't frequent them. No option simply because we attend church en famille.

stevehut

En famille.  I had to look it up.

You're not allowed to fellowship outside of your family?   ::shrug::

(BTW, I wasn't suggesting you seek out a mate over a pint.)

We attend the same church as a family. As Catholics , I'm not sure how I could subscribe to a distinct "fellowship".

Simple.  You make a choice.

Who are you trying to please, God or your parents?  I don't think God is honored when people attend church out of a feeling of compulsion.

celine

You've lost me here. I am a devout Catholic as are my parents. We go to a Catholic church, all of us out of a deep sense of faith. You seem to suggest that I should try and find a different  Catholic congregation with better dating potential?
There is but one Catholic fellowship , the churches themselves are just buildings. as it happens I don't see any contradiction between pleasing God and pleasing my parents. I am not ashamed to say that I do obey them because I know that while under their care and protection that is my biblical duty. They are loving and righteous people, with the accumulated wisdom and experience that I lack and in following their instruction I am following the Word of Our Lord.
I really have said all I want to on this topic. I find your tone rather abrupt and hostile to be honest and  I'm finding our exchanges more distressing than enlightening.

stevehut

Celine, do you know what's the biggest reason young people quit church?

stevehut

Celine, the number one reason why young people quit church (with a particular church, or Christianity altogether), is because they want to find a soul mate and their present church doesn't help them meet that need.

You've described yourself as a devout Catholic, and I respect that.  You want to find a husband, and that's a natural need that everyone has.  And in order to honor God, I think you'll want to find a like-minded Catholic man.  I'm trying to help you get what you want, while staying true to your values.  And Internet date is a poor way to get there.  Not impossible, but the odds are slimmer.

arleigh

I don't think any one is wise enough to give advise on finding a mate. Man's own wisdom lacks so much in forsight and seeing through really good actors, a lo of false fronts out there.
Daviv wrote,"Delight your self in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart"
also He wrote ,"trust in the Lord with all your heart ,and lean not untou your own understanding ,but in all your ways ackonwledge Him and He will direct your path"
I know these to be true, I seek God's direction for most every thing I do , I mean I pester Him often ,but He does not grow tired of me.
God puts in my path the things I need when I need them.I love serving god and doing the things He asks me , and He guides in the scriptures and reaafferms the things Jesus taught.
I spent a year and a half on an evangelistic team traveling the continant US canada and mexico. Most of the kids on the team were along for the ride, a few were touched  but most were there with their own agenda.
One thing I found that isolated me is that social believers know how to "act" and speak christianees, but when life runs it course many turn back the the real person they are and become uncomfortable with those that really love their relationship with the Lord.
Seek out God's perfect will for your life before seeking to fallow some social pressure, and know where you are going . don't look to man but to the Lord ,and don't be anxious over it , trust God's love for you, and inspire yur own love for God to grow.
The more you need Him in your life, the more oppurtunity you give Him to be involved.
this is the only advise i am instructed to give.

chosenone

arleigh, do you really think that people only want to marry because they are following social pressures?I think there is far too more to it than that.
Also dont you think that sometimes God wants us to make some effort ourselves to find a mate? If I hadnt made any effort to find anyone I wouldnt be married to my wonderful husband now. Theres no doubt that God wanted us to meet, but if I hadnt gone onto a Christian dating site (or nor had he) we would never have met. Its all very well saying that God will give us the right thing at the right time, but I do think that He sometimes expects us to put in as bit of effort ourselves as well.

comfy

If you are discovering that guys you know are not for real, God is trusting you to be His example to reach and help these people. Jesus has brought us into His body, in order to reach to wrong people who need God. And if you obey this, the Holy Spirit will be your Internet to get you connected with a guy who God knows is into this, too.

And parents can help their daughter to find a real guy ::smile::

mind boggled

::saint::Any suggestions for a good single Christian dating site? I've had really bad experiences on them so far...has anyone out there found a nice Christian on a site? ::pray::
