I-Am-His

I've been single for awhile and haven't had a crush in that time either. I recently started going to a local church which lead to attending the youth events. A particular guy at this church has really caught my attention and I can't shake this feeling at all. I've prayed and prayed for guidance and help dealing with this rush of feelings but they only seem to be getting stronger. I'm not doubting God, I know He has a plan here, but I'm terrified that this is the devil's work because I am getting closer to God than I have ever been and I always hear that the more You seek God, the harder the devil works to deceive you. Just because this guys a christian and seems perfect to me does not mean he is in God's plan for me, temporarily or otherwise. I've never reacted this strongly, this quickly, to anyone before. It's scary. And distracting. I constantly have butterflies and he is always creeping into my mind. I'm still spending time with God but thoughts of this guy are taking over my mind for a major portion of the day. I know patience is key here and nothing can ever substitute prayer, but any extra advice would be so much appreciated! God's perfect timing is so different from our own idea's of timing, and even if this guy is meant for me, I could be waiting years for anything to happen and if I keep feeling the way I am now those years are going to be a major test. Prayers greatly appreciated also!

God Bless x

It appears to me you are wise beyond your years.

I sincerely believe infatuation is good and from God, but like all good it can be perverted to evil's end.

Infatuation is like a spark and a pile of fine, dry kindling; it can instantly produce a passionate if short lived flare.  If handled correctly, as God intended, it can ignite a fire that is long lasting, and a more intense yet slower burn.

Certainly be aware of the temptations of evil.  Forewarned is forearmed, you seem to have both, and a good head on your shoulders.

Enjoy, I guarantee when you are older, you will look back on these periods with fond remembrance.

God bless,
Carey.

Carey is absolutely right.  Of course, there are two outcomes: you two end up dating and possibly getting married, blah blah blah...or nothing happens.

From my experience, infatuations haven't lasted that long in the relationship world and have almost always ended in pointless drama and broken friendships.  With each one, it got worse and worse.

Besides that, you've only met the guy once right?  Even if you've met him 2, 3, or even 10 times, how well do you know him?  Of course you know how he acts in church.  That doesn't mean anything though.  I've had my fair share of girls who act Christian in church but show no faith whatsoever outside the doors.

My take home advice?  Run.  Infatuations mean nothing when it comes to relationships.  If you truly believe this might be from God, there is no better way than to ask Him.  Pray to God to give you a sign of some sort.  I have with one of my infatuations and immediately felt stupid the next day as I knew for sure that there was no way me and the girl were going to make it all the way to marriage.  That was 3 years ago.  Where am I at now?  Happily single, but still looking for the right one that God has out for me somewhere.

Hope this helped!

This has indeed been helpful, thank you :) You're right of course, asking God is the best way. I have been doing so but not actually asking for a sign or a clear understanding of what is going on in my heart right now and whether it is of God and real or completely false and unintended by God. I've met him 4 or 5 times now just, and though I've spoken to him a lot I don't know him deeply at all. It's just hard because everything I learn about him I adore. It's hard to keep your head screwed on and your wits about it when it comes to the heart. But God has been so good to me and I know He is with me in this and won't let me be tempted beyond what I can bear as the Bible says :) Thank you for your advice!

My usual cure for an infatuation was to get to know ALL about a person. Their history & their family. My family is enough to scare almost everyone away.

Minister MarcAlan

Hi Im Minister MarcAlan of FHL Fruit Of Life..Often people wonder is this from God or is Satan trying to trick me...Remember something that is from God will always be in line with Gods Word and wont cause you to stumble or want to sin..For example if a guy sees a pretty girl and all he can think about is sex or ways to sin and is consumed with lust..It is safe to say that this girl is not from God...Remember God does not tempt us to sin..So I would first suggest you to recognize what you feel for this person...If you realize your feelings are some how out of line with Gods Word than you can back off and be aware of the tempter...However if you recognize your feelings being genuine and in line with Gods Word then you can ask God to simply reveal to you rather or not this is your mate..Remember the strongest connection you can have with a person is a spiritual one with God as the center piece and corner stone..And yes it is hard and if you are lonely that makes it harder..Be encouraged and continue to build your faith..God bless
