The Cross of Jesus Christ is Now Our Sword

Read Luke 9:22-24            Read Matthew 10:34
What cross are we sons and daughters of God are supposed to pick up?  Are we supposed to pick up a sword too?  Here is the Spiritual revelation of those verses.

When Jesus was hanging on the cross He conquered sin, Satan, death, fear and many more things.  After 3 hours of darkness He said it is finished.  He overcame and accomplished everything He came down from heaven to do.  He was then laid in a sepulcher.  Through the Spiritual power of God He rose from death, walked around for forty days preaching the Spiritual things of God, seen by hundreds.  Then 500 of them watched as He rose up to heaven.

When they took the cross of Jesus and laid it down on the ground, if we look at His cross on the ground, it looks like a sword.  That's the cross we are symbolically to pick up for now His cross is our sword.  We are to daily pick up His cross-sword to carry on where He left off, go out and fight our enemies with that sword.  When we fight with that sword, out comes Spiritual power, Spiritual wisdom, and Spiritual love.  We can conquer all our enemies because it is His cross-sword.  So my brethren, let us pick up our cross-sword daily and fight for the one who saved our souls.  Amen.

This thinking helped inspire the crusades.  Not saying the thinking is wrong at all... just thought the way it was written was interesting.

Helen

When we were given the armor in Ephesians 6, please note two things:  First, it is defensive entirely except for the Word.  Second, our orders are simply to stand.  The war is in the heavenlies among the invisible powers.  The other orders we have been given are to make disciples (not believers -- that is the Holy Spirit's work), and to always be ready to give an answer for the hope we have.

When we 'take up the cross,' we are 'killing' our own wills and doing His.  The cross is an instrument of death, not war, and we are to die to ourselves daily.

HRoberson

All of the armor is defensive. The short sword is best used as defense, not offense.

The cross we pick up is our denial of self, of our joining with Jesus in suffering for the world, of our living with our own imperfections, doubts, temptations, desires and yet, continuing on in the Father's business - whatever that might be; whatever cost it may demand.

Now, one might argue that the way the cross overcomes the world is precisely by self denial, humility, peace-seeking. In that sense, I could see the cross being the tool for overcoming the world. I think I could, anyway.

I love you HR...  But the Word is an offensive weapon along with prayer in verse 18.  But it must be handled with love.  "Speaking the Truth in Love"...  The Word is an awesome weapon, while one swing will tear down another will build up (edify)...

Hebrews 4:12 is one of the best descriptions of it's ability and utility...

What about about everything Jesus did before the cross to get people to care at all that he died? Why didn't he just after he had John baptize him?

Acts 2:22 "Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.

Jesus, Peter, Paul, and Philip were equally about the kingdom and the cross. They are part of the two-fold message of the gospel.

Matthew 4:23
Jesus was going all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every[a] disease and sickness among the people.

Acts 8:12
But when they believed Philip, as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

Acts 19: 8
Then he entered the synagogue and spoke boldly over a period of three months, engaging in discussion and trying to persuade them about the things of the kingdom of God.

Acts 28:30
Then he stayed two whole years in his own rented house. And he welcomed all who visited him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with full boldness and without hindrance.

2 Peter 1:11
For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.

A sword looking like a cross is just coincidence.

"A sword looking like a cross is just coincidence."

That sparked a thought in my two brain cells -- if the cross is a sword, the handle is UP -- and it is God's to use in that way, not ours.   Not doctrine, but just a thought....

Perhaps you are not thinking of the right sword, Mirage:

"For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
Hebrews 4:12-13

Yes, and the Word of God is the only truth that we should be relying on.

The sword I am using is proving much more effective than what Protestants are doing. You should see the power the sword I am using has against Protestants on other forums. The sword would not have this much power against Protestants unless it is of God.

the devil is mighty strong, too, Mirage.  How do you know you are not being deceived?

All historical evidence on the subject clearly proves, Christ founded the Catholic Church.

Helen

In that case, Christ founded a church that has persecuted believers, murdered the Jews, waged war repeatedly, had lechery and larceny up in the top echelons....

nope, Christ didn't found the Roman Catholic Church.

But by believing He did, you are really opening yourself up to a lot of other deception as well.

Jesus founded the first century church, which later deteriorated into the Catholic Church. The New Testament church did not kill  those they considered heretics.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them---bringing swift destruction on themselves.

They didn't kill those who practiced the magic arts

Acts 8:9, 22-23 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, [22] Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. [23] For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

Acts 19:19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.

They didn't pray to dead saints. Instead they asked for eachother's prayers, from LIVE people

Colossians 4:4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

as with Job, not as Catholics do.

Have Catholics renounced the TENS OF MILLIONS of alleged heretics their ancestors killed over the centuries?
