Hobie

When we were young, one of the teachers took us out to the ocean in his boat, and showed us a strange phenomenon, red tide. He told us this is what will happen when the sea turns to blood, I brushed it off at the time, but now the sea is turning red like blood on the coasts of Florida with red tide killing everything it comes in contact with in the sea and the canals have filled with toxic blooms which are going out into the oceans at a tremendous level....I am wondering...

Revelation 16:3
And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

Hobie, I will post here what I posted in response to your same post on the other website where you and I share membership.  This "red tide" featured in the news has nothing at all to do with Revelation 16:3.  And your teacher was wrong in his interpretation of it.

You cannot consider ordinary marine life to be a "living soul".  Oceanic life does not possess a soul.  This prediction in Revelation 16:3 was referring to living humanity in this particular sea.  It was NOT speaking of all oceanic life forms dying at one time by a "red tide" phenomenon.

This Revelation 16:3 prophecy was actually predicting a tragic episode of the Jewish / Roman war in the late AD 60's.  All of the sailor pirates in the city of Joppa at that time died in the Mediterranean Sea as they tried to escape Vespasian's attacking Romans by fleeing Joppa that night in their ships into the rocky bay.  God then brought a violent "black north wind" (as Josephus said it was called) upon those sailors the next morning, which broke their ships and dashed a great many men to pieces against the jagged rocks, causing many to commit suicide rather than to drown or be taken by the Romans.  Those few stragglers who managed to swim back to shore were slain by the Romans as they attempted to escape the storm.

As Josephus recorded it, "...the sea was bloody a long way, and the maritime parts were full of dead bodies; for the Romans came upon those that were carried to the shore and destroyed them; and the number of the bodies that were thus thrown out of the sea was four thousand and two hundred." (Wars 3.9.2-3)

You are almost two thousand years too late with your interpretation of Revelation 16:3.

It appeared back about 8-9 years ago on the satellite it was so big, they were huge dark black spots in the Gulf, miles across and no one knew what they were. They sent out scientist to take samples and thats when found out they were the blooms caused by the red tide and was killing anything in it, and then toxic blooms sprouted in Lake Okeechobee as green algee and throughout our canals. Its very toxic and they tell you not to touch it and it is getting to the point its not worth living by the water or canals. They are trying to find something to combat it, but its getting worse...

I am finding its happening in all the oceans and the scientist are warning it is getting worse, of course they point to 'climate change' making the seas hot, but we shall soon see if its what Revelation gives us forming as the final plagues come.. https://bibleask.org/what-are-the-seven-last-plagues/

Information below from link above concerning the world soul in Revelation 16:3.

QuoteLexicon :: Strong's G5590 - psychē

The KJV translates Strong's G5590 in the following manner: soul (58x), life (40x), mind (3x), heart (1x), heartily (with G1537) (1x), not translated (2x).

I. breath

 1. the breath of life

  1. the vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing

  1. of animals

  2. of men

2. life

3. that in which there is life

 1. a living being, a living soul
the soul

II. the soul

 1. the seat of the feelings, desires, affections, aversions (our heart, soul etc.)

 2. the (human) soul in so far as it is constituted that by the right use of the aids offered it by God it can attain its highest end and secure eternal blessedness, the soul regarded as a moral being designed for everlasting life

 3. the soul as an essence which differs from the body and is not dissolved by death (distinguished from other parts of the body)

ψυχή psychḗ, psoo-khay'; from G5594; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew H5315, H7307 and H2416):—heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.

STRONGS G5590:
ψυχή, ψυχῆς, ἡ (ψύχω, to breathe, blow), from Homer down, the Sept. times too many to count for נֶפֶשׁ, occasionally also for לֵב and לֵבָב;
1. breath (Latin anima), i. e.
a. the breath of life; the vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing: Acts 20:10; of animals, Revelation 8:9 (Genesis 9:4; Genesis 35:18; ἐπιστραφήτω ψυχή τοῦ παιδαρίου, 1 Kings 17:21); so also in those passages where, in accordance with the trichotomy or threefold division of human nature by the Greeks, ἡ ψυχή; is distinguished from τό πνεῦμα (see πνευαμ, 2, p. 520a (and references under the word πνεῦμα 5)), 1 Thessalonians 5:23;

So no, Revelation 16:3 does not have to be about humanity only. The context reveals it is most certainly about ocean life. Nor are the rest of us trapped within the Preterits box you have chosen to limit your understanding within.
