WWII setting, based on a true story. Great Christian film directed by Mel Gibson, nice to see Mel's continued efforts to bring Christianity into the mainstream movie theatre.

Definitely recommend

Very highly rated movie.  The negative reviews I've seen all comment on Gibson's alleged antisemitism, suggesting they're giving a bad review because they don't like Gibson rather than because the movie isn't good.

Well, I gave it an 8/10 but IMDB gave it an 8.6/10 based on 25,000+ votes, certainly not a blockbuster but still did 46 million at the box office.

I wanted to see it, but my wife did not.

I think I heard the guy the movie is based on was SDA.

He was a SDA but from what I understand he became a Baptist later in life.The movie was great tho!

I saw it tonight. From what I read about the battle for Okinawa, it was a very realistic movie. Even bloodier than Saving Private Ryan. Very powerful story though.

It was way gorier than I would have preferred, but if it was any less so, it would have taken away from the amazing story of bravery that it portrayed.  Any less gore would be like trying to portray the horrors of American Slavery with the cast of Downton Abbey as the slave owners.

Never heard he became a Baptist. Where did you here that one?

It was in one of the Alabama papers months ago when the movie came out.He was a member of a Baptist church later in life is what the article said.

I'm pretty sure that is not correct. Never heard it before, and don't seem to be able too find anything about it.

I saw the movie this weekend.  Amazing guy.  Almost every combat medic I have known have been among the bravest American.  Great story great man.
