In today's global economy these trade arrangements are good business. NAFTA will likely be tweaked, but it's not going away.

Kinda like Obamacare.  ::frown::

Any of these trade deals can result in differing opinions, but reality is the economy has gone global and it will not be reversed. Yes, NAFTA has caused manufacturing jobs to shift from the U.S. and Canada to Mexico, but at least it prevented all those jobs from going to China. It's all about being productive at a lower cost. The U.S. is lost when it comes to that. We can either complain and call for a rigging of the system to create an artificial competitiveness paid for by consumers, or we can innovate and compete as the rest of the world is doing. Either way, the global economy is here to stay.

The game has changed. You can either adapt to the new rules and win honestly or you can attempt to pay off the refs.

I've been against NAFTA since being a few years into the program, seeing job losses here by manufacturing facilities move to Mexico has been disheartening as just one small example of the negative effect it has had on Canada as well as the US. Seems liberals here are quite content with the beating our dollar has taken so long as they can remain on their 2% mortgage rates.

We sell our agriculture products below cost and as a result have almost crippled Mexico's farming business, but it's a numbers game, if we can say that we've tripled our exports since introducing NAFTA, the bottom line becomes irrelevant.

Bacon is NOT duty free, we will defend it to our deaths if necessary.

It's an imperfect world with an economy that ebbs and flows. Interesting you complain about the market price of agricultural products. That's a common theme here in Idaho that has a large agriculture base. You couldn't find a farmer or rancher complaining a couple year's ago when wheat was going for over $9 a bushel and beef north of $140 cwt. Supply and demand forces has moderated returns of late, not trade agreements. When products get too high for the consumer, they change their purchasing habits. $9 a bushel wheat and $140 per hundred pounds beef resulted in $3 per loaf bread and $4 per lb. hamburger. The folks will opt for other food stuffs when the prices get too high. The ebb and flow are market forces working as they should.
