First, I want to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of love and support during what has become the most difficult time in my families life.
As most of you know, we lost my nephew, Gunner, on November 3rd. While I will say it was totally unexpected and shocking, I don't know that anyone could ever be prepared for this kind of pain.
I have been wanting to send a message or write something so everyone can understand what happened- I know people are curious and mostly for the right reasons. I know most of you are truly concerned for me and my family. I appreciate that.
I feel it's important to tell Gunner's story for 3 reasons:
#1- Gunner was an amazing kid who deserved the life he won't get the chance to live so I owe him his story to be told.
#2- I want to clear up any misconceptions and give the facts.
#3- Gunner's story could very well save your child's life so please, share his story.

The short version:
Gunner went out with friends on Friday night.
They came back to my brothers house late and stayed up eating pizza and playing video games- like most 19 year old boys do.
At some point during the evening, Gunner, and his friend, took a pill stamped Percocet. The very popular and easily accessible pain killer.
Gunner has no history of drug use, has never been a "problem child", was a star athlete, wonderful son and brother and was extremely loved in his community.
We don't know why he decided to take "a pill" that night. The only thing we can assume is that the curiosity of knowing what the "high" is like came into play? Again, we can only assume.
His friend also took a pill.
Both boys died what we think was pretty immediately. Both went to sleep and never woke up. -That's the most positive thing in Gunner's whole story- that he felt no pain & didn't suffer. (Although, positive is a generous way of putting it).
My sister in law, his mother, found both boys the next morning. She, and my nieces, tried to resuscitate to no avail. Both boys had been dead for hours and there was nothing they, or the paramedics could do.

The pills Gunner and his friend took were at the very least laced with fentanyl. We are still waiting on reports but there is a good chance it was more then 50% fentanyl. That's enough poison to kill 10 adult males. According to the detective working on Gunner's case, to draw comparison for perspective, 2 grains of table salt size of fentanyl will kill any adult.
Think about that.
Gunner never had a chance.
I'm sharing Gunner's story because Gunner had a whole life ahead of him. He had goals and aspirations. He wanted to be a dad. He wanted to continue to play football and baseball in college. He wanted to go hunting and fishing with this grandpa. Gunner wasn't done.
One bad choice, one stupid minor mistake was all it took.
Gunner never had a chance.
It's very natural to be curious and want to "experiment" with things at Gunner's age. Remember when we were in HS and kids considered experimenting with cigarettes?? It's a different time now. Kids are experimenting with pills because they think they're safe. They've seen them in their parents medicine cabinets from their moms car accident last year or from when their dad threw out his back. They seem harmless.
These aren't the pills in your parents medicine cabinet. They are made in someone's garage who is trying to make a buck...a buck at the expense of our children's lives.
THERE CAN BE NO EXPERIMENTING.
None.
It's truly a matter of life or death.
You can't see fentanyl. You can't smell fentanyl.

Tell your kids Gunner's story. Show them his picture. I can't describe the amount of pain my brother, sister-in-law and Gunner's sisters are going through- a pain that will NEVER end. A hole that will NEVER be filled. A life that will never be brought back. A beautiful life.
Gone forever. ????

Praying for you and the family.

SO sad, why oh why do kids keep taking such things?

RB

So sad! I hurt for his dear mother that found him, that will be with her forever a pain that will never go away. I have grandson his age some a little older, some a little younger. Just about every boy will try something~this shows how easy it is for them to die from doing such things as this.

A useless death, a life never to be lived, and deep pains that he left behind for his family to endure all over thinking that a pill might give them a feeling that life cannot provide for them.

So sorry for your lose.

The youth don't know how to get wasted In the Lord. Because they have never been taught , because there parents don't go there and it's not taught in church. So drugs move in to replace a God zone that is in us all. The place of encounter , the room the Lord made within us, to be with us without judgement

You are right Bemark.

Trouble is though is that too many of their friends would scoff at such an idea  , even if they themselves were convicted, because they want what the perceive to be that feel good moment all the time. And they are basically so miserable, due to peer pressure and lack of parental and/or church guidance that they reach out for whatever.

Those who just want to see what it is like.....

They are simply idiots.

I know a family, not into drugs, who has had very staunch and strict and proper upbringing... off to college they go and we have been sitting back watching one disaster after another.... Such as raised with abstinence and off they go and goodbye to that.

I do not know how it all will turn out, but it is not getting better.

I am so sorry for this terrible loss.  I pray that God will be near in your hearts and minds as you grieve for Gunner.  I agree with you that sharing his story can help to redeem some of the tragedy if it brings warning to any other person who hears.  Does your brother's family have a church to support them through this?

bemark

Year Rella and those kids just  get screwed of there godly inheritance. They are born again but wither and die. The kingdom is spirit.  Its not bible education nor doing good. Its about going in , receiving who you are there ., the power .....so you radiate it on earth as it is in heaven. Thats where you find your real self. Not what is on earth. You on earth is not what you are In the  kingdom.

bemark

So I can only pray to the keeper of the door , the door WAY. I am the way.  that leads us into him , into the spirit realm by being joined to our Lord Jesus Christ,  who holds the keys to life and death. You have to understand this . You release life and death from the spirit realm. So I say and pray Father bring your kingdom in that is power and destroy the demonic plan against those whom you have called. Destroy those who apose you and lift up those who are bound. Break the chains and keep breaking them and let your light shine all through out there lives. I rebuke disgrace and self loathing . You are loved and accepted by the blood and his kindness.  Father Look upon those in there struggles and show mercy. Father you are kind so let your will be done on earth as it is in you, in your dreams
they are your children so gather them in and keep, them safe. Release your wings and cover your children. Almighty God strength us when we are week.Cover us in love, surround us in the spirit . Come down on us and spread your wings. We can't change Lord without your help so stretch out your hand to save. This is your game

May the Lord comfort these families. There can be no tragedy like losing a child. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. (Psa.34:18) may they find some peace eventually, in order to carry on in this life.

I'm so sorry for their loss. Also, may there be justice against the persons who deliver these pills.

I pray God will help the family through this tragedy. Amen. ::prayinghard::
