Faith v Faithfulness of God

One thing that has always bothered me is the importance of faith in salvation as if it is a type of work. In a book I'm reading about the Armor of God, the author asserts that it is not our pitiful faith but our shield was ALWAYS the faithfulness of God.

Perhaps this is a crisis of faith. I do not see my faith as relevant relative to the faithfulness of God. Thoughts?

God's faithfulness does not vary from one person to the next  --  from the saved to the unsaved.  So yes, it is our "pitiful faith" that is the difference between the saved and the unsaved.
