The "Third Temple" Prophecy Refuted

There is no literal physical third temple that will be built.
The third temple doctrine comes from 2 Thessalonians 2:4.
"Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so
that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

It indeed is speaking of the man of sin, the false messiah, the Antichrist.
But it is not speaking of a literal temple.

Here is commentary from Ellicott on 2 Thessalonians 2:4.
"Though the image is drawn from the Jewish temple, we may say with some confidence that
St. Paul did not expect the Antichrist as a prose fact to take his seat in that edifice.
Neither is the metaphor to be pressed into a mere synonym of "the Church" (1Corinthians 3:17).
The words, so far need not necessarily mean that the Man of Sin will make special
claims upon the Christian community as such. Rather, the whole phrase, "taking his seat in the
temple of God," is a poetical or prophetical description of usurping divine prerogatives
generally: not the prerogatives of the true God alone, but whatever prerogatives have been offered
to anything "called God." Though the prophecy might be fulfilled without any symbolical
act (e.g., of assuming any material throne), yet the spontaneousness ("himself") and the openness
("showing himself") seem so essentially parts of the prophecy as of necessity to imply that the
Man of Sin will make formal claim to occupy that central seat in men's minds and aspirations
which is acknowledged to be due to God alone. The formal making of this claim seems to be identical
with the apocalypse of the Man of Sin, the act by which he is manifested or revealed."

So what does this mean in layman's terms? It means that Antichrist is going to be revealed in
a very grandiose way, as the Lord Jesus Christ will when He comes in the clouds and every eye will see Him.
So shall the Antichrist come, everyone will see him and know of him. All those that are not the true elect
of God will be deceived by the false messiah, the Antichrist into believing that he really is the messiah, that
he really is God. In their minds, which is what the temple of God in this scripture is referring to,
the minds of men and women, in their minds the Antichrist will actually be God to them.

So there is no end time 7 year tribulation period, and there is no literal physical third temple.
What are we looking for? Were looking for the revealing of the false messiah, the Antichrist.
He will deceive many into believing that he is the messiah, that he is God.
God's true elect, those that strictly obey His word, His commandments, His will in this life, that
have made a sacrifice of their lives to devote it to God, to live for God and not themselves, these Christians
will be martyred for their faith. I believe very few will survive to the end of the world when the Lord returns to
be caught up in the rapture.

There will... be a third temple built in Jerusalem for the very end of this world. And that in order to fulfill the 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 prophecy which is the event of Matthew 24:23-26 where Jesus warned of a coming spurious Messiah, and where Jesus also prophesied of an idol abomination setup in a standing temple in Jerusalem, all this for the very end of this world.

Jesus quoted from the Book of Daniel about the "abomination of desolation" event, even about 200 years after Antiochus IV had been dead. Antiochus took Jerusalem, went inside the 2nd temple and sacrificed swine upon the altar spiritually desolating it. He then setup an idol abomination in Zeus worship further desolating the 2nd temple. That serves as the historical blueprint for the "abomination of desolation", because the Daniel prophecy was not completely fulfilled by Antiochus, the proof being that Jesus showed in His Olivet discourse to look for a future false one to fulfill it.

Orthodox Jews in today's Jerusalem have been busy for the last couple of decades in gathering the materials in prep for building their next temple in Jerusalem. Some of them have been holding passover sacrifices on a hill overlooking the temple mount. They have even tried to place a cut cornerstone on the temple mount, more than once.

So don't be deceived brethren by those like the OP who doesn't actually know what they are talking about:

I just made a new thread talking about the 7 year tribulation false doctrine

robycop3

It won't last quite 3.5 years, as jesus will cut it off lest all flesh should perish.

Brethren in Christ. We don't have to rely only on the 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Scripture by Apostle Paul to 'know'... that he was pointing to a future literal stone temple in Jerusalem that the "man of sin" will use in false worship.

The Daniel 9:27 and Daniel 11 event of the "abomination of desolation", which Jesus later mentioned for the end of this world, we know requires... a standing stone temple in Jerusalem in order for that Daniel prophecy to be fulfilled. So don't let these cats who try to deceive against that fool you.

One of those "keep on the back burner simmering" subjects.

I would offer the first-century reformation as the greater context. Paul demonstrated the final authority was found in all things written in the Law and the Prophets. The unbelieving sign-and-wonder Jews counted sola scriptura as heresy, yet the reformation still came.

In their jealousy to be like the surrounding pagan nations, they rejected Christ as King of kings. As it was in the days of Samuel, they desired an outward earthly system and denied the unseen authority of the Holy Father.

When Jesus the Son of man walked out of the temple for the last time, Christ in Him declared it desolate — not "it will be," but "it is."

No sign was given except the warning against those who seek after signs and wonders rather than the testimony of prophecy. "Lo here" or "lo there" cannot reveal Him. Christ leaves as a thief in the night on the last day under the sun, while the world still seeks signs.

The greater temple question becomes: was the warning only about stones in Jerusalem, or about men departing from the living Word and seeking earthly signs in place of the unseen faith of Christ?

We already have a past historical blueprint for the "abomination of desolation" event with Antiochus Epiphanes in 165 B.C. And Lord Jesus in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 was pointing directly to that as an example of the future completed fulfillment of that for the end of this world.

So I see no reason to try and squeeze that event back to the 1st century A.D.

The Lord would never return to rule from another temple made with dying human hands as the will of dying mankind. Believers are now the living temple of God.

When Jesus walked out of the second temple for the last time, He declared it desolate already — not merely someday in the future after a few stones fell.

"Behold, your house is left unto you desolate" (Matthew 23:38).

Desolate means abandoned by God's presence. The judgment was already declared before the physical destruction came later in 70 AD.

The abomination is trusting earthly temples, priesthoods, and outward systems while rejecting the living temple made without hands. Christ now dwells in His people, the born again temple of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 7:48 — "Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands."

The focus of the gospel is no longer earthly Jerusalem and stone buildings, but the unseen eternal kingdom revealed through the living body of Christ.

DaveW

Desolate is not forever.  Besides, it is Messiah Himself who will rebuild the Temple.

Rev 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. 17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

He already did.

Mat 26:61  And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

Mrk 14:58  We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

Jhn 2:19  Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

The body of Christ our Lord is the New Covenant temple, which body the authentic church of Christ is. Both as a corporate body, and individually by the presence God the Holy spirit within.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Sorry Amo, but you are seriously misunderstanding what HE said.  He was NOT referring to a physical temple.  Neither was Paul.

However, Ezekiel WAS prophesying of a physical temple that is yet to be built.

Those are 2 very different things.

1) Solomon's Temple
2) Nehemiah's Temple
3) Herod's Temple

Perhaps we should be talking about a 4th temple, rather than a third?

Yes, that was my point. The New Covenant temple is a spiritual temple, not a literal one. Not here on earth in any case. As apparently there is a temple in heaven, where our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us. Which is why any future literal temple on earth, could only represent some form of deception.

What sacrifices will be made there, in the place of our Lord and Saviors sacrifice, once and for all? What intercession will be effected there, in the place of our Lord and Saviors perfect intercession? How would or will another temple on earth made by the hands of men, replace the temple in heaven made without hands? From which our Lord performs everything essential to the judgement of this world, the salvation of His very own who have access to the very throne of God within this temple, and from which our Lord does and will send His angles to effect all of the same.

Ezk 40:1 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither. 2 In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south. 3And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. 4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel. 5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

So began the measuring of the temple in the vision of Ezekiel.

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

So began the vision of the measuring (judgement) of the temple of God in this New Covenant, the Church. In relation to the two witnesses, which are the Old and New Testaments, unto the end of this world. To the extent that all who hurt (attack, deny, confuse, war against), the word of God should killed.

Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

These visions of Ezekiel and John are in relation to the measuring and or judging of those professing to be God's people. Each of who represents and is to represent the building blocks of God's New Covenant Temple in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is the temple our Lord rebuilt in three days.

1Co 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

1Pe 2:1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

We will all be measured as living stones fit for the temple of God or not. In direct relation to the Chief Corner Stone our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the WORD OF GOD. Amen.

Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Mrk 4:24  And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

Luk 6:37  Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

The Gates of the City

Ezk 48:30 And these are the goings out of the city on the north side, four thousand and five hundred measures. 31 And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates northward; one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi. 32 And at the east side four thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of Dan. 33 And at the south side four thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of Simeon, one gate of Issachar, one gate of Zebulun. 34 At the west side four thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of Naphtali. 35 It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.

The New Jerusalem

Jesus Is Coming

Rev 22:6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. 7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. 8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. 10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. 11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.m 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

This 3rd stone temple the orthodox Jews in Jerusalem are getting ready to build will not be Christ's future Millennial temple. Christ's prophecy of not one stone atop another that He gave as a sign in His Olivet discourse actually has a 'dual' fulfillment, the final one to occur on the day of Christ's return.

The Zechariah 6 Scripture about The "BRANCH" (Jesus Christ) says He will build the temple. The orthodox Jews are familiar with that prophecy and believe the coming false-Messiah will be true Messiah that will build the temple. It won't be the true Messiah though, but a fake. And Jesus will return to destroy that fake one, which is the "man of sin" Paul was pointing to.

Quote from: BlessedCreator on Mon Apr 20, 2020 - 10:11:38There is no literal physical third temple that will be built.

And we see who burned and killed the faithful believers and persecution of those who sought reformation. Its not hard to see who sat in the church and corrupted it and sits there even now ready to continue.
