Has anyone watched this series? It is outstanding. We have watched Season 1 and Season 2 through Episode 7 last night. There is an app that you get to watch it. The season finale of episode 2 is coming next about the Sermon on the Mount. My favorite so far was a couole of episodes back where Jesus healed the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda.

Please tell me someone else here is watching this series on my Christian forum. Pretty much every human in my social circle is eagerly awaiting each new episode and talking about the most recent one! (Though not so much at my church) It is an absolute phenomenon here. It's talked about with the same anticipation kinda the same way as the old Dallas episodes used to be.

Alan

We have Pureflix, apparently my wife says the series is there so I'll get the app on my downstairs TV and watch it next.

Jaime

When we first heard about it, we binge watched the four episodes that we were behind. We hadn't done that since the TV series 24.

One of the very early ones in season 1 about Mary Magdellen and her brokenness REALLY hooked me! As well as the portrayal of Nickodemus and his story. Seems like each episode in season 2 is an unexpected treat.

Hadn't really heard about it.  Saw that Vedek Yarka/Kasuf is playing Nicodemus.

He did a tremendous job playing Nicodemus.

I finally watched it, finishing up a day or two ago.  Binged it, actually.  It appears they were trying to teach all of His lessons.  Having a possibly to likely back story leading up to it or coming from it latter on seems pretty effective, especially when the people were doing regular life things instead of standing there doing nothing but dialogue like seen in so many Jesus movies.  I suppose life was like that back then, but I don't know.  Something I find myself watching over and over is Jesus explaining to Little James why he hasn't healed him, YET.  That makes Paul's statement "my grace is sufficient" so much more powerful in my mindset than it had been.  Perhaps there are many people like me who have watched this scene and have found many of their own "why" questions about the perceived problems in their lives vanishing away, too.  I've never seen 6-7 minutes of any movie/film/show that has been anywhere as powerful.  That Little James is played by a man with that actually handicap is very interesting and would love to hear what he thinks about it.

Nick, the Little James story was awesome! The theme of Jesus NOT healing some is a big back story, especially through season 3 and 4. if you have a way to watch the Aftershows, the cast and the staff discuss these type things and it adds a tremendous context to the stories. My sister and brother-in-law rdcently discovered them and rewatch episodes AFTER they view the AFTERSHOWS. It really inhances the Chosen experience.  The good news it keeps  getting better and better. I really don't know how they do it!  We have finished season 4 which was epic! Can't wait for Season 5 beginning with the triumphal entry. Glad to see you are watching it. I was skeptical at first but now i'm hooked! My favorite so far is the woman with the issue of blood, also Peter walking on water.

On one of the Aftershows, they talked about this series is about to come out in 600 languages! They use AI to sink the lips to each language vs it appearimg as an old Bruce Lee movie.  They played an excerpt from their presentation in the Madascar language and a reaction from Madascar natives. It looks to me like a tremendous evangelism tool.

Mere Nick

Aftershows? I'll have to look some of those up.  I'd heard of the show but for some odd reason never got around to looking at it.  Maybe now was the right time.

We are now re-watching season 1 through 5 along with the roundtable discussions on each episode as we await the climactic season 6. The round table is  comprised of Dallas Jenkins discussing with a Roman Catholic, an Evangelical, and a Messianic Jew about their take on "issues" with each episode. Very interesting especially the Messianic Jew's historical a d culteral perspective. Also getting the Catholic perspective is interesting as well considering their unique view of Mary.

A sample of one of the Roundtables:

Since Rabbinic Judaism is different than 2nd temple Judaism, how confident can anyone be that the Messianic Jews are on target with the cultural aspects they disagree with?

Jaime

My opinion is they are probably closer than I would be as a total novice. They usually have grown up as orthodox Jew and converted to be Messianic. Granted the absense of the temple affects a lot of things. The show definitely depicts the Judaism of the day as misguided and evil to a degree ESPECIALLY Caiphus except for the characters of Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimethea, which the Bible tends to also show them in a better light than the typical Pharisees.

The culture things I was referring to was what some of the holidays depicted involved such as  Jewish New Year or Yom Teruah or Feast of Trumpets, And the Feast of Tabernacles, etc.

From what I have read and seen about the show, the weiters do a lot of historical research in Josephus and other first century writings to get the "flavor" of the times. The roundtable discussions are to see how the atory portrayal plays to the various potential audiences. For instance there has been some dust up in Catholic circles about the everyday commoner portrayal of Mary's character in the movie. Catholics tend to elevate Mary moreso than Protestants do. Also in one scene in Season 3 Episode 4 maey and Jesus have a discussion a out Jesus' s bothers James and Jude. The Catholics believe Mary was a perpetual virgin after Jesus's birth. Evangelicals don't seem to have an issue with that though.

Perhaps closer than a novice but removing the temple and adding the Talmud/Mishnah along with nearly 2000 years of being removed from the temple, their (Orthodox, etc) perspective needs to be taken with some skepticism.

On the round table the Messianic Jew has only offered tidbits on things like the holidays, and family traditions, etc. he has commented on the Catholics perspective and the evangelical perspective. They are all very respectful of each other so it isn't awkward. Their purpose was to help Dallas Jenkins to offend the fewest possible viewers. I would say it sounds like some Catholics were most offended by the portrayal of Jesus' mother Mary, which is not surprising. All the movie does with the first century Judaism is shown in a bad light except of course for Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimethe, who seemed ALMOST TO CONVERT but not quite. The character of Caiphus came across as downright satanic. The scene in the Nazareth synagogue was very dramatic where Jesus was reading from the scroll of Isaiah and said these prophecies are fulfilled in yoir sifht TODAY! The Nazareth rabbi did a great job of showing utter disgust at Jesus declaring this about himself.

The friction between the Roman occupiers and the Jewish Sanhedren and the rule of Herod as King of the Jews was well done in the show. The Sanhedren clearly wanted rid of Jesus but they had to walk a fine line since only Rome could carry out any capital punishment because Rome didn't want any major dissent to disrupt the Pax Romana. Jesus was a challenge for all these intertwined motives.

Jesus's own words paint the religious Jewish leadership as basically downright Satanic

Yes, a "brood of vipers."

The Chosen team or the Come and See Foundation are gearing up to translate this story into over 600 languages. They hired an executive from Disney that has a lot of experience in converting movies into foreign languages. They showed a sample on some program and the lip movements are modified by AI to sync with the audio. It wasn't like an old Bruce Lee film where the words were coming but the lips don't move! Seems like they have a very aggressive plan and the infrastructure to literally spread the Gospel to people of every tongue on Earth. I think they currently have 50 or so languages complete and out to viewers.

I would offer from another perspective.

I am in agreement . . . .down right false prophecy, false apostles brining oral traditons of dying mankind.. .making the living word of God without effect.

The first century reformation is not usually spoken of for some reason from my experience

The first century reformation which had come about when the athiest Jews in 1 Samuel 8 had become jealous of the surrounding Pagan nations and their religious foundation .(out of sight out of mind) .God calls fools, Having a earthly king as if our eternal King And not Christ the invisible King of kings, Lord of earthly lords .

The abomination of desolation teaching God lives in temples made with human hands as a will of dying mankind (oral tradition) Mankind has been the living temple. . . . Christ in us a hope of his "Let there be" glory

In Mathew 23 and 24 Christ the father gave words to His apostle Jesus declaring the will. The house made with human hands  is desolate not will be when a few stones fall.

It would seem to be one of the lying signs from the father of lies .Jesus the Son of man declared it desolate. saying no sign was given and its a evil generation that seeks after a sign and not prohecy alone as it is written

Matthew 23:37-39 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Christ giving over to the lying Jews what he should not of .That signifying time period

Hebrews 9: 8-10 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure (parable) for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation

In that Hebrew 9 parable the signified prohecy hiding the understanding from the father of lies. The unbelieving Jew worshiped shadows or ceremonial laws as if the true spiritual substances .

It became a Jewish men's only club .Two 15 ft. high walls. One to separate the Jewish women from participating in the ceremonies and another wall separate the gentiles from the Jews .The walls came down mixed families could now come together an one new Christian family.

The gospel explosions' one like never before or ever again  .A joy to the believers like never before a terrible tribulation for the Jew that was trusting his dying flesh
