Just which generation Lord Jesus was pointing to in His parable of the fig tree in Matthew 24 is actually very easy... to understand. It is very simple.

Matt 24:32-35
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.
KJV

There are 2 key phrases Jesus said above that seals in which generation He was pointing to. They are, "when ye shall see all these things", and, "all these things be fulfilled."

"when ye shall see all these things" = the generation He was pointing to MUST SEE ALL... of those SIGNS leading up to Christ's future return. The SIGNS Jesus gave there are those "things" He was referring to.

That includes that 1st SIGN about not one stone atop another also, because the Western Wall of huge stones of the old temple mount complex, and stone structures on the temple mount, were not part of the Roman's 70 A.D. destructions, and they are still standing today in Jerusalem.

"all these things be fulfilled" = again, ALL those SIGNS of the end Jesus gave there upon the Mount of Olives.

Thus it is silly... to try and assign the generation living in Jesus' day to that, because not ALL of those "things" (SIGNS) were fulfilled in His day at His 1st coming, nor in 70 A.D. either.

And how much common sense does one need to also understand that the event of Jesus' future coming & gathering of His saints is the FINAL THING (SIGN) that He gave there in Matthew 24? That ought to reveal right off the bat that He was pointing to the generation that will experience His future return!
