Apostle John was in prison on Isle of Patmos during the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian, circa 96 A.D. The evidence was revealed by what Eusebius and other Church fathers said:

"Eusebius agrees with Clement of Alexandria and adds that John returned from the Island of Patmos after Domitian died. He also adds that Domitian reigned after Nero. Historical records indicate that Nero reigned from A.D. 54 to A.D. 68 and Domitian reigned from A.D. 81 to A.D. 96. Notice that in the following quote, Eusebius states that "to do the same thing that the latter did" refers to Nero. Further, in the following quote, Eusebius refers to Nerva as Domitian's successor. Historical records indicate that Nerva reigned from A.D. 96 to A.D. 98. This provides conclusive evidence that the Domitian Eusebius refers to is the Domitian who reigned from A.D. 81 to A.D. 96.

Tertullian also has mentioned Domitian in the following words: Domitian also, who possessed a share of Nero's cruelty, attempted once to do the same thing that the latter did. But because he had, I suppose, some intelligence, he very soon ceased, and even recalled those whom he had banished. But after Domitian had reigned fifteen years, and Nerva had succeeded to the empire, the Roman Senate, according to the writers that record the history of those days, voted that Domitian's honors should be cancelled, and that those who had been unjustly banished should return to their homes and have their property restored to them. It was at this time that the apostle John returned from his banishment in the island and took up his abode at Ephesus, according to an ancient Christian tradition.[9]

Irenaeus adds that John lived in Ephesus after leaving the Island of Patmos. He remained there until Trajan began his rule."

OKAY.... Ummm , I agree 100% agree with you but I suspect that @3 Resurrections will come along to counter this.... but from a differing view point then mine.

I might add the Emperors between Nero and Domitian by dates according to Britannica are....( just so no one will try to fill in the time erroneously.

Nero (54–68 CE)
Galba (68–69 CE)
Otho (January–April 69 CE)
Aulus Vitellius (July–December 69 CE)
Vespasian (69–79 CE)
Titus (79–81 CE)
Domitian (81–96 CE)

Wiki says... Domitian Emperor of ancient Rome (51-96)
Domitian was Roman emperor from 81 to 96. The son of Vespasian and the younger brother of Titus, his two predecessors on the throne, he was the last member of the Flavian dynasty. Wikipedia

Looking into Domitian sending John to Patmos and when is where my interests lie.

Interesting read... https://biblearchaeology.org/research/new-testament-era/3080-the-king-and-i-the-apostle-john-and-emperor-domitian-part-1

From this: "The Apostle John, exiled to the island of Patmos about AD 95, received a more sure word of prophecy. " is right there with your about AD 96.

And with the agreed assumption that John wrote Revelation while on Patmos... it had to be after AD70... but that is for another day and time.

Thanks for posting this....

Well written and concise enough to understand

It won't matter who tries to counter that 96 A.D. date when John was prisoner on the Isle of Patmos, the events of Revelation that Jesus gave him are also the SIGNS of the end that Jesus gave His disciples upon the Mount of Olives per Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, and that is what is most important. Preterists and Historicists only try to move the date back so they can falsely claim the Revelation prophecies were fulfilled in the 70 A.D. era destruction of Jerusalem, so they think.
