SMH... so dumbfounded it caught me off guard

My mom is in rehab therapy and Wed they move her to a
home due to not just the dementia but the broken femur.

I have been over there every day for 3 weeks feeding lunch and
dinner and then home.

Today I was "sick" and called and said I could not.

So a neighbor went to see her and she was having a very bad
issue of Sundowners... (earlier in the day then most do) but he calmed her and prayed with and for her and she settled.

He asked me to see if our minister had made a call on her and I said the visiting pastor called but I delayed that until she gets to the home.

Then I called our visiting pastor who plans to see her tomorrow.

Great I thought just in case I cant go myself.

And then he asked me the oddest question.....

If back in the day was my mother active in the church or was a deaconess...

I said no. (Truth is, dad would have kept her home) and he just said something like, Well, then she is not in the3 closeness of God. She did not have the "teachings" that she would otherwise have had.

And we talked a bit about that and I told him she did study her bible cover to cover...

I just somehow got the feeling that he was hinting that without the "church" involvement ?


So...I did not want to start an argument....  BUT

Well, that's comforting. Woman calls pastor to come visit and pray with her elderly, sundowning mom, but pastor only focuses on church membership and doubts the "closeness of God" with the mom - whatever that means.

Is there a chaplain there at her facility? Sometimes they have more comforting words than the preacher down the street - at least in my experience.

I have only seen a small chapel... but once she is moved to the more permanent place , there may be.

I actually only called this guy, who I tried to discourage 3 weeks ago, (He has done one home visit a few months back) (And I was not impressed)because I cannot go today and just trying to provide someone else for mom.

I actually did stop him dead when I think he was going to see if I was
going to be active in the church once again when mom is gone.

I diverted the conversation to the online religious forums and the "education" one can get there for such things as if there is or is not a trinity.... LOL.... His only comment was that that was settled
in the early centuries of the church and I had to bite my tongue
to not say I am not a Calvin believer. (That just might get me kicked out, LOL)

Anyway....

The world sure is full of odd people
