Is Antisemitism caused by hatred of the Sabbath?

Antisemitism in the form of persecution and Pogroms were happening way before the Holocaust, and everyone knows what happened in 1492 in Spain, but something else happened that year. In 1492, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castille issue the Alhambra Decree, mandating that all Jews be expelled from the country. History records what happened, "Spanish Jews were forced to renounce their faith or leave their thousand-year homeland behind. Meanwhile, the Spanish economy crumbled as hundreds of thousands prepared for departure, liquidating their assets and scrambling to arrange their affairs."

This had started even earlier back a century before, in 1391, when a wave of anti-Jewish riots swept through Spain, where thousands were killed. Others were forced to accept Christianity, so you can see the problem with the sincerity of these "conversions", so many of these "converts" now became persecuted by the Inquisition. And everyone knows the Roman persecution of the Jews leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, and millions being killed or were exiled or fled for their lives.

So why was there such hatred of the Jews, it cant be explained by the accusation that the Jews were Christ-killers., as anti-Jewish riots swept through Roman Empire as Christians were dying in the Coliseum and spread even in non-Christian areas. So what made them different than the people in the other nations and areas, well the day of worship certainly made them stand out.

There is no avoiding the fact that the first major "persecution" of the Jews after Jesus death, was part of the judgments of God upon them. The old testament scriptures plainly stated the blessings and curses associated with Israel regarding either their steadfastness toward God, or rebellion against Him.

Those Jews who rejected their God in Christ Jesus our Lord, suffered the consequences of their own prophecies concerning such actions. God was against them unto judgment. The kingdom of God was taken away from them, and given to those alone who could produce the fruits thereof, the followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. those Jews who rejected Him, it should be remembered, first started persecutions against their brothers and sisters who chose to follow our Lord. Therefore also did God turn the powers of Rome itself against them, unto the ruin and scattering of the nation according to their own prophecies.

The Jews however who accepted their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom they persecuted, formed a new covenant spiritual nation and kingdom of all who would be in Christ Jesus. Which kingdom has and will stand forever. The kingdom of God was taken from those Jews who rejected their Savior, and given to them who marched forward by faith in Christ. So the original cause of their first major persecution after Christ, were in a great measure, due to their own actions and God's judgment regarding them. Setting a precedence, for the future.

As time moved forward though, the enemy of all souls succeeded in leading many "Christians" down the same roads of apostasy Israel of old travelled over and again. Apostate "Christinas" dividing and warring against themselves as a result as ancient Israel had many tines over as well. Supposed Christians vying for the political powers of this earth, eventually literally killing each other in the name of Christ. These "Christians" who would persecute and kill even other professors of our Lord Christ, of course would and did treat Jews likewise, if even not more so in their fallen state. Eventually the Roman church gained ascendancy above these warring apostate factions. Demanded and achieved widespread submission by the others, and became a new and mighty force for any to contend with.

At which time persecution of her enemies became an easy matter to facilitate. Condemnation and separation from all things perceived as Jewish, became an established goal of this Romanized apostate Christ professing institution. Which gained the support, power, and influence of the state. During this same time of course, the divide between authentic Christianity, and the apostate Roman Church of amalgamated pagan and Christian sentiment increased unto open war. With only one side willing to persecute and kill in the name of Christ of course, apostate Roman Catholicism. A major point of contention arising between them being exactly the difference regarding the observance of God's holy seventh day sabbath, or the observance of the man made and professed sacred day espoused by the pagan and "Christian" amalgamated Roman church. Sunday sacredness.

Beginning the struggles between the two contenders of these professed and or chosen holy days, which continues up to this very day. The Romans contending God's holy sabbath being that of the Jews rather than God's, which should be done away with along with the old covenant. While declaring they, the church, had and has the authority to change the day and fourth commandment of God. Historically enforcing their own day by civil legislation upon all many times over, and in many places to date. Resulting in periods of greater or lesser persecution of dissenters, which has included seventh day sabbath keeping believers and followers of Jesus Christ. Often being accused of being Jews for doing so in the past. A great many Sunday keeping Christians today seeking to establish such laws still. Even on a global scale if possible. Which will unquestionably lead to persecution once again as well. So be it as God's word has predicted, and history has played out.

Dan 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. 26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. 27  And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments , that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

I would say that associating the fall of Israel at the hands of the Romans up to AD 70, was because of their sabbath observance, is a mistake. Most if not all Christians who escaped the climactic destruction of Jerusalem, by believing their Lord's testimony regarding the same, kept the seventh day sabbath themselves. As already stated, that doom was the result of rejecting their predicted Messiah, as holy scripture had predicted they would. And the judgments that followed.

Persecutions specifically regarding the sabbath, started later as many including Christians, determined to distance themselves from the Jews. The sabbath of God they observed being an association with them, many did not want, as the Jews were hated by so many at the time. This also contributed heavily to the rise of Sunday sacredness within  the ranks of "Christianity". Being an alternative which helped distinguish those wishing to be so, from the Jews.

Many later persecutions of Jews and Christians though, were directly connected to the observance of the seventh day sabbath or not. Including the factual histories regarding Spain and the Inquisitions referred to in the opening post. Mandated sacred Sunday observance laws, made such controversy and conflict pretty much unavoidable. As an increasing number of them today, eventually will also. This issue has not, and will not go away.

The Muslims tried to worship on the Sabbath, but the Jews did not want gentiles so kept them away. So the Muslims decided to make Friday their day of worship, and everyone accepts it without any pushback, but it was never a day set by God, but made by man and became tradition for them.

The Romans held the Jews to be rebels to their rule and danger to the empire, but once Papal Rome arose there was no real reason for the hatred which rose up, except that it showed their deviation from the true Sabbath to Sunday and the rites and rituals they brought in to say nothing of the Idol worship..

Here is SOP on 'Satan's Hatred of the Sabbath'...

The Lord gave His Sabbath to man as a weekly reminder of Christ's sanctifying and keeping power, because man needed this reminder. (Ezekiel 20:12) But Satan has always tried to blot out all memory of the true God from the earth, and to draw man's allegiance and worship to himself through idolatry. (1 Corinthians 10:20) He has therefore made relentless efforts to pull down God's Sabbatic flag, and to trample it in the mire. We have seen that for a long time after the descendants of Noah had dispersed over the earth they retained the knowledge of the Sabbath. This was true even after they went into idolatry. Egypt was the first among the heathen nations to attempt to suppress the seventh-day Sabbath, and influenced other nations to regard the first day as the weekly holiday of their sun-god. Truels Lund gives us the following information on this important and interesting subject of the week in Egypt, in his extensive work:

"According to the Assyrian-Babylonian conception, the particular stress lay necessarily upon the number seven.... The whole week pointed prominently towards the seventh day, the feast day, the rest day, in this day it collected, in this it also consummated. 'Sabbath' is derived from both 'rest' and 'seven.' With the Egyptians it was the reverse.... For them on the contrary the sun-god was the beginning and origin of all things. The day of the Sun, Sunday, therefore, became necessarily for them the feast day.... The holiday was transferred from the last to the first day of the week." — "Daglige Liv i Norden," Vol. XIII, pp. 54, 55.

"The seven planetary names of the days were at the close of the second century A. D., prevailing everywhere in the Roman Empire.... This astrology originated in Egypt, where Alexandria now so loudly proclaimed it to all.... 'The day of the Sun' was the Lord's day, the chiefest and first of the week. The evil and fatal Saturn's day was the last of the week, on which none could celebrate a feast....

"From Rome, through the Roman legionaries, the seven planetary days pressed farther north to Gaul, Britain, and Germany. Everywhere ... people yielded respectfully to the astrology in its popular form: the doctrine concerning the Sun-day with its fortune, the Moon-day with its alternative play, and the filthy, unlucky Saturday.... As a concentrated troop the planetary appellations and names of heathen deities stood on guard, when later Christianity reached Europe, and attempted to displace them....

"For the Christians the lot was cast by the reception of the ... day of the sun. Not till they themselves had later gained power were they awakened to doubt.... And the heathen names of the days seemed at variance with Christian faith." — Id., pp. 91, 92, 110.

The London Anglican rector, T. H. Morer, says of Sunday:

"It is not to be denied but we borrow the name of this day from the ancient Greeks and Romans, and we allow that the old Egyptians worshipped the sun, and as a standing memorial of their veneration, dedicated this day to him. And we find by the influence of their example, other nations, and among them the Jews themselves, doing him homage. "Six Dialogues on the Lord's Day," p. 22. London: 1701.

Thus we see how Satan, through heathenism, tried to stigmatize the Sabbath of Jehovah and to elevate Sunday as a joyful day. The Egyptians worshipped their sun-god under the name of Osiris, and the Apis bull (the golden calf made at Horeb) was a representation of him. This worship was conducted by turning to the rising sun. (Ezekiel 8:16.) Therefore the Lord ordered the tabernacle always to be pitched with the front toward the east, so that the people, worshipping before it, had to turn their backs upon sun worship. (Numbers 3:23. See also Exodus 26:22; 36:27, 32 in American Revised Version, and Jeremiah 32:33) Talbot W. Chambers, D. D., says that sun worship was "the oldest, the most widespread, and the most enduring of all forms of idolatry known to man!'

"The universality of this form of idolatry is something remarkable. It seems to have prevailed every-where. The chief object of worship among the Syrians was Baal - the sun ... In Egypt the sun was the kernel of the state religion." — "The Old Testament Student," pp. 193,194. January, 1886.

In Babylon the sun-god was called Bel, in Phoenicia and Palestine, Baal, and Sun-day was "the wild solar holiday of all pagan times." — "North British Review," Vol. XVIII, P. 409.

Rev. W. H. Poole says:

"The first and principal idol was the sun - the glorious luminary of the day ... Baal was the great sun-god of all the East. With our Israelitish ancestors the sun-god came west. His day is our Sunday. Every time you name our Sabbath-day Sunday you are reminded of our great, great, great grandfathers' principal deity." — "Anglo-Israel in Nine Lectures," pp. 389, 890. Detroit, Mich.: 1889.

The Encyclopedia Britannica says of the worship of Baal:

"As the sun-god he is conceived in the male principle of life and reproduction in nature, and thus in some forms of his worship is the patron of the grossest sensuality, and even of systematic prostitution. An example of this is found in the worship of Baal-Peor (Numbers 25)." — Vol. III, (New American ed., Werner Co.), art. "Baal," p. 175.

This sun worship was the greatest of all abominations to God (Ezekiel 8:13-16), and the warnings to Israel have great significance to us today: "I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat Me, saith the Lord." Hosea 2:13. (See also 1 Corinthians 10: ll.)

When we remember that it was Christ who took Israel out of Egypt (Hebrews 11:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 10:4), and who labored so earnestly to turn them away from sun worship and Sunday keeping, and that it was Satan who always led them into this idolatry, we ask with all candor: Could any one suppose that Christ, in the New Testament, has exchanged places with Satan, so that He is now leading people to keep Sunday, while the devil is leading them to keep the Sabbath of Jehovah? Every thoughtful person must say with the Apostle Paul: "God forbid." Romans 3:31.

God's seventh day sabbath has certainly always been a target of the evil one to destroy. It is an observance which calls all to worship the true God and Creator of the world. Sun worship as well, has been a favorite counterfeit and idolatrous worship of the evil one. He has certainly maintained his attack upon God's sabbath, and support for sun worship, throughout history.

I am not aware though, that there was a particular day of the sun observed by pagans during the old covenant era, which apostate Jews also observed. Equivalent to the first day of the week. Still, the greatest abomination and sin of Israel pointed out in Ezekiel 8, was them turning their backs on the temple and bowing and worshiping before the rising sun in the east. Which I reckon today, with professed followers of Christ abandoning God's seventh day Sabbath, and replacing it literally with the day almost universally accepted as the day of the sun. Brought about exactly by the amalgamation of "Christian" and pagan sentiment, practice, and worship. The exact sins and abominations Israel was often guilty of, before God.

I would certainly be interested in learning more about an old covenant practice concerning the first day of the week by sun worshipers, if the evidence is recorded. Such would only verify that this exact issue between differing days, concerning the worship of differing gods, goes back even further than I knew. Nevertheless, the evidence is certainly abundant, that sun worship has been a major and favorite contender of true worship by the evil one. Please do share more conclusive evidence of the same during the old covenant, and or as a cause for the wars and destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. This would be important histories I am not presently aware of. Thanks.
